Stayed just 1 night at Seiryu Ryokan with family of 4, but wished to stay more. We stayed all together in a single guest room. It was cosy but fine for all for a good night sleep and great traditional experience. We had traditional full dinner including 2x five kinds of Hida beef in the in room dining. In one... More

A lovely Ryokan that will satisfy anyone's desire to stay in a traditional Japanese accommodation. We had the full experience with the meal in the room, which we really enjoyed - the food was excellent. Even sleeping on the mat wasn't that bad at all! The room as with any Ryokan is basic to say the least, but for a... More

The location was okay and the value was pretty good. It was our second time staying in a ryokan, so we knew somewhat to expect. The room was clean, but smelled strongly of cigarette smoke despite it being a non-smoking room. The room service was exceptional and the in-room meal was one of the highlights of our trip. We only... More

What a lovely welcome - A banner outside with my name and perhaps the word welcome in Japanese! Then my dad had locked his bag and we had to break the lock and thankfully the staff (young man) helped us so dad was hugely grateful. Check in isn't till three so we went to do some sightseeing before returning and... More

Having stayed in a Ryokan on a business trip in 2013 I was keen to share the experience with my partner. Doing this at Seriyu was very enjoyable. The room was basic (compared to my previous experience) but the in room dinner was very impressive, the Onsen was relaxing, wearing the Yukata around the hotel and down the street to... More

Stayed for one night in September 2013. The food was a highlight as provided a unique Japanese experience. The room certainly was in the form of what I understood a Ryokan to be so other than being different to what I am used to I thought it was certainly comfortable enough for a night. The service provided by the staff... More

We came to Takayama without booking and with the help of the information centre near the train station, we secured a room. We live in Tokyo and we thought the accommodation and service was fine. We would stay again.

Lots of the other reviewers have compared this to other Ryokans but without having stayed in other Ryokans it is difficult to say how good this is as a Ryokan so i will review based on our experience alone. Overal we really enjoyed the stay which was for one night. The staff were friendly and helpful, the accommodation was clean... More

We stayed for 3 nights in Feb 2013. We've stayed in many ryokan in several cities & towns in Japan, and can only say this place is nice, but can't rate it any higher than "ok". Modern building, but showing its age (guessing it was built in the 70s or 80s) and totally without character. (Yes, there are ryokan in... More

We got a very warm welcome when we finally arrived. Staff is so friendly they try to help you as much as they can even though they can't speak english. Good location for morning market and old town. Everything is great except the onsen bath is too small and the room wall is too thin.
