The location is really good, in a quiet neighbourhood with several small temples and gardens, right by the river. The staff is helpful and friendly, the service itself was very good and enthusiastic. Unfortunately this ryokan was the only accomodation on our 2-month trip that didn't accommodate our request for vegetarian/vegan dinner, didn't even notify us in advance. The request... More

We spent two nights at Takyama and our stay here was excellent. Our room overlooked the street right on the top end of town. This was our first stay at a larger Ryokan and the staff could not have done more to make our stay memorable. Dinners and breakfast were served in two different dining areas and guests are rotated... We were in Japan for three weeks and stayed in 12 different hotels and ryokans. This is our favourite. Amazing service, delicious food and wonderful onsen. I made a request before our visit and they were very helpful and really made sure they delivered what I asked. When we were leaving, they came out and said goodbye to us which... More

This hotel is awesome! We feel the boss really use heart to treat their customers. Everyone spoke good English in this hotel and they tried their best to understand your need all ththe time. The dinner is fantastic too! We have over 10 dishes and feeling every dish is well made, beautiful and delicious. The hotel is elegantly decorated too,... More

It was recommended by a friend and we were not disappointed! Free pick up from the train station, great welcoming staff! The room was perfect and very traditional! We rented a bike to the Hida Folk Village and visited the Old town nearby! The hot baths inside were perfect and the cherry on top was the food , it was... More

The stay at this place was a surprise for me. My sweetie booked it with meals. Meals are optional. What a great experience eating meals prepared by local mothers and grandmothers. Sushi, Hida beef, soup, lots of sea critters, rice, etc. The setting was beautiful! The onsen in the basement was clean and perfect with lockers and baskets to leave... More

I enjoyed staying here very much and I definitely want to stay here again next time I go to Japan. The food was excellent and some of the best that we ate in Japan. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The Japanese style rooms (which I love) were nice and clean, not too big but not too small either.... More

Again choose this ryokan on reviews and price. As Lonely Planets suggests it is good a ryokan to pick to get the experience without the large expense. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Food was good. Onsen was clean and fun. Room was quite large and clean. We spent two nights there.

A lovely, relaxing place to stay when visiting the Japanese Alps. Your welcome is warm, the facilities are clean and comfortable and the food is sublime. The Onsen is very relaxing, and pretty much every need is catered for with a morning coffee point, massage chairs and local information easily available. The rooms are smart and uncomplicated in the traditional... More

We stayed in May for 2 nights. Overall it was a good stay. Room was big enough with a comfortable bed. The place is quite big and well run by lots of Japanese staff. Pros: although 20min from the station it is actually very close to things to see. Price was reasonable. Public bath was clean and reasonable size. Cons:... More
