It's just plain awesome. From the pick up from Takayama station, to the room, Public Japanese bath area, dinner and breakfast, everything was done in great details. There's not a single bit that I was satisfied with. It's my first ryokan experience and I loved it. Stayed in a 8 tatami room with toilet without bathroom with a friend and... More

Had a Japanese room with ensuite toilet and basin. The onsen was really good - inside and outside baths, Beware they change around the men and womens side so everyone gets to experience both! Went twice once only one other person in there, and other time I had it all to myself! Good breakfast. Did not have dinner Felt like... More

Great Japanese experience! Staying in this Ryokan was a fantastic experience. Immaculately clean throughout, beautifully appointed traditional rooms, beautiful gardens and surrounds. The staff always on hand, very friendly and helpful and spoke enough English to assist with all our requests. Bikes are available for hire, which we used to explore Takayama. A great way to get around. Meals were... More

As I'm writing this, I'm still not sure how to rate this ryokan. You certainly get a lot for your money here. For 17,000 yen we had a room with dinner and breakfast included. However: There were no private bath in the room. I don't think any of the rooms had private baths; in fact, some of the rooms didn't... More

During our two weeks trip in Japan this was one of our best experiences. Takayama as such is very beautiful and worth seeing and staying in Yamakyu made this experience at least three times more enjoyable. Location is very good, it easily allows you to visit all worth visiting on foot. Owners are fantastic and they will make you feel... More

The check in is at 2pm but they allowed us to keep our luggage in reception until we checked in. The room was a good size and gave us all the standard needs for a ryokan. The staff were incredibly friendly and spoke great English which really helped. We didn't stay for dinner but we did enjoy breakfast and welcomed... More

I felt we'd made the perfect choice with this ryokan in Takayama. It's situated slightly further away, (but still just 15 minutes or so from the station) on the side of a mountain, nestled in amongst a really beautiful group of temples. The walk through the temples was one of my favourite experiences on this Japan trip. Our room had... More

Great ryokan, very friendly, offer collection and drop off at station. Nice rooms with ensuite toilet/sink and separate shared baths are nice. We booked the DBB package and dinner was very good, large selection and well prepared. Breakfast was Japanese with a hint of western (croissant and yoghurt) which helps for those who arent used to Japanese breakfasts. Coffee available... More

We really enjoyed our 2-nights stay in Yamakyu. The staff there are very friendly and helpful. When we arrived to Takayama, one of the staff members was waiting for us in the bus station, to give us a ride to the ryokan - it was great! The rooms are nice, clean and definitely give you the Japanese experience you want...... More

Goodish location about 500metres from the old town. Decent room with Tv and safe, japanese style so bed made up in the evening sometimes a little later than would be my choice. Communal bath which I thought was great, slippers only inside and oddly a lift given it only goes 2 floors, staff super nice and helpful with some English. Incredible... More
