First stay at Japan in a tatami room! I thought I would be staying in a tatami when we travel to the outskirts of Japan like Shirakawa-go, but this is a comfy stay at Takayama! There's problem with the parking as it is limited, but the hotel provides a comfortable stay. The tatami room is a raised up floor as... More

This was an affordable hotel but also a genuinely pleasant surprise, and far better than many of the more expensive places we stayed at on our trip. The location is wonderful and the staff were immediately warm and welcoming, and the decor itself, while strangely muted looking in most photographs, is homely without being tacky. We had some deep, quiet... More

Despite the rustic charm of most ryokans, they can be stressful places. You never know if you're doing things right. The sleeping can be uncomfortable, and the facilities can be a bit worn. Not at Rickshaw Inn. The owners make you feel at home, and want you to enjoy the experience of the ryokan. From the helpful and charming staff... More

We stayed here last October and really enjoyed it. Rickshaw Inn isn't a normal business hotel, but a speciality lodging catering for individuals. We loved the communal room with the library. The tatami room was our first experience of these rooms in Japan. Shame we didn't return here after going to an Onsen but went to the Spa Alpine instead.... More

The staff here were very helpful - they provided umbrellas when there was heavy rain (we had bad small ones) and provided a lot of help when we were planning on travelling by bus via Kamikochi to Matsumoto. The hotel itself is a gorgeous wooden building and the rooms are beautiful with tatami mats. The breakfast was also very nice.... More

Excellent location (walking distance from the station and to the old quarters of Takayama). Very nice decoration of the hotel with many beautiful ethnic coths hung on the walls. warm welcoming atmosphere. The owner is a Takayama native, he speaks a very good English and will be happy to let you know the best places to visit in the city.... More

We were fortunate enough to book the Sakura room (family room) for our family of three. The photos on the website don't do this Inn justice because they are quite dark. This is because of the traditional woods in the furniture and style and I think it would take a great professional photographer to show it off. Our room is... More

A short walk from the station and near to all the shops and restaurants. We were greeted so welcomingly by the staff and made to feel very much at home. This is to traditional place in that you can't wear shoes inside (makes a lot of sense actually and not sure why some people get so fussed about it!) but... More

Ths place is really great. Hotel is located within a walking distance from almost everything important in the town. We walked there from the bus statnion and it took us about 10 minutes. There are many restaurants on the street right next to the hotel and al the landmarks are also very close. Hotel itself is very nice, clean and... More

Great modern ryokan with shower in the room. Location is very central between the train station and the sightseeing area. Very comfortable and extremely friendly staff. Get their restaurant recommendations. Best places in town!
