【PARFECT LOCATION】 One of Nearest Guesthouse from JR Takayama Station ONLY 2 MINS from JR Takayama station / bus terminal ONLY 8 MINS to the old private house / morning market 【FRIENDLY HOMESTAY VIBE】 Lonely Planet say: Visitors love the friendly homestay vibe of this small, centrally located guesthouse. Pleasant rooms with homely touches are kept spotlessly clean. There's free wi-fi and a shared kitchen. 【TYPICAL BUILDING OF TAKAYAMA】 ・80 Years Old Japanese style house ・Only 15beds in guesthouse
Me and my boyfriend stayed three nights in a private tatami room. The room was beautiful and had a good heating (Outside it was very cold sometimes), the toilet and shower were clean, and the hosts were really nice and helpful. Shingo-san suggested us to go to a bar of friends of theirs, at which we had a great time. The only little disadvantage was that the last night a noisy group of guests arrived. But.... our overall rating is excellent!

We stayed for two nights in the private double room. Great location, extremely clean and comfortable rooms. The owners were lovely, mapping restaurants and sites worth seeing around the town. Highly recommend to anyone travelling to Takayama!

The owners of this guesthouse are so sweet! They speak english very well, and are prepared to help you with anything. They provide a map of the city and recommend some places to eat/drink/have breakfast. They also organised a Bbq for their guests. The guesthouse itself is small, but very clean. Small downside; it has only 1 shower, and it can be noisy in the evening/early morning.. So earplugs are highly recommended.. Location is perfect, so overall a very nice place to stay!

Because of a Taifun I arrived in Takayama at midnight. I hadn't booked anything yet and was a little bit worried if I would find a place to stay. The host of the guesthouse and I accidentally met at the station and he offered me a room. He and his wife were very kind and helpful. Besides that the guesthouse is very cute und also clean. Takayama is a rather small town but still the gousthouse is well situated and you reach almost all the main points within 5 minutes. I had a nice stay and I would definitely go there again, next time I am in Takayama. :)

we liked it here. it was clean with helpful staff. usual japanese style sleeping and shared amenities. 1 shower and at least 2 toilets but didnt seem crowded. Small kitchen area with free basics and honesty boxes for saki, real coffee beans, etc. Quiet, especially main sleeping hours. close to old town, resturants and shops and JR train and the bus station.

What a homey little place that Shingo and Madoka have here in Takayama. We found out that Shingo originally was in Canada working in Banff, not far from where we come from! What a cool connection. The facilities are what you would expect of a guesthouse/hostel. We were in a six person mixed dorm. Clean sheets, immaculate bathroom facilities, safe and quiet neighbourhood (love hearing the birds chirp in the mornings)... what more could you ask for? Just a five minute walk from the train station.. makes it a convenient place to stay at. It is also not far from the main drag and old town. Shingo did a great job orientating us and providing us with the basic maps and guidance. For a $30/night stay, I've got nothing to complain about. For those who have mobility issues, I wouldn't recommend this place as it has some steep stairs to go up to the bedrooms. As well, as with most hostels here in Japan, the beds are a bit hard but manageable from my perspective. 😉…

Visited for 2 nights in April - happened to be over the naked festival which was lucky! All the staff at the hostel are fantastic and could not have been more helpful to us helping plan our days and offering discounts at the local onsens. We hired bikes and went to hida folk village and cycles the local area. The hostel was very clean - all beds in the dorms were tatami style or a top bunk. The walls are all traditional Japanese style and are paper thin so bring earplugs, but even with them it's still quite noisy. There's also only one shower! Not a problem when we were there as the hostel wasn't full but could be when busy. Overall thought a good hostel to stay at with friendly, helpful staff

very warm welcome as soon as you arrive. the staff made sure that maps and local recommendations for places of interests and restaurants are readily available and available anytime for questions. there is only one common shower room though, so expect some waiting time. kitchen is open for guests to use for free. each bed has provision for electric outlet which is a plus. for a house that is 80 years old, it is well kept and very clean. thumbs up to shingo and his family for being such friendly and nice hosts.

Very nice guesthouse with small kitchen (including coffee, tea, fridge and what else you might need), cozy common room, showers and restrooms on the lower floor and on the upper floor: dormitories and rooms which were nicely heated. Very homely experience - the guesthouse owners are very friendly and it almost feels like you are a small part of their family while staying there. The location is really good - 3 minutes walk from the train station and in between is a convenience store. The town center is 5-10 minutes walk from the guest house. Highly recommendable!

Stayed for 2 nights in a female dorm. Beds were reasonably private, very spacious, and very comfortable. Bring earplugs because like most older Japanese buildings, the walls are very thin. The hostel is in a fantastic location very close to the station which gives great access for day trips to the wider Hida region. A short walk from the historic part of town and all the essential amenities are close walking distance away. Best thing about this hostel however is the staff and the atmosphere - it is very quiet but sociable. The staff were a great and helped us with our travel plans in the area and also made booking for us on tours and dinner reservations. Hostel has a great vibe that is social but not rowdy - met lots of really nice people there which we ended up going out for dinner and to the markets with. Fantastic stay - highly recommend!…
