We got J Hoppers via the package we got for Takayama stay and Shirakawa tour. This hostel serves its purpose for a place to sleep and freshen up but definitely no frills. It needs a bit of renovation since the place is a little old already. A lot of people stay in this place maybe because it is part of... More

We stayed for 3 nights in October, and i was so surprised at how great the room was! My sister and i stayed in the twin private tatami rooms with futon bedding, and it was the most comfortable sleep I've had while traveling! The staff were nice and helpful, the kitchen and common areas were nice, the toilets on our... More

Stayed for 2 nights in a 6-bed female dorm. Staff were nice enough though when I checked in it took quite a while as a lot of people were also checking in. Bed was just right, and the extra space for things was a plus. Shower area is found only at the 1st floor, but there was never a line... More

Close to & easy to find from JR station. We stayed in a Ryokan style room which was large, comfy, clean & heated. Staff were friendly & helpful, showers were hot. We loved Takayama, very quaint with lots to do & see, the morning markets are well worth a visit, try to find the fabulous egg custard served warm in... More

So as a disclaimer, I have never stayed in a hostel before and this was my first time. We availed of the 2d 1n tour from J-Hoppers with transport from Kyoto to Takayama to Shirakawa and then to Osaka. The tour is much cheaper than what you would spend I think if you did it on your own, so it... More

I was originally looking to book for a double room and they were full but they gladly arranged a bed for us in their Quad room for the same price of two. The staff are very friendly and nice. The rooms are Japanese style with tatami mat and beds on the floor. Very affordable hostel but pleasant stay!!

Not all hostels have a lift. In our opinion, the comfort of hostels if they have a lift. Especially for hostels which has four floors. The lift at this hostel really helped us to move our baggage from the lobby to the rooms in third floor. The hotel staff were friendly. They provided snowshoes and umbrella so it help to... More

4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2015

We stayed in the Japanese quad room which was spacious and clean. Two bunk beds and 2 futons with tatami mats. The room was bright with big windows. Initially we had reservations about not having our own ensuite bathroom, but the washroom was just round the corner from our room. Female and male bathrooms were segregated and the female ones...
