Staying here was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Because there is so much to see and do in Takayama we were here for eight nights and we were made to feel so much at home. We had a super room (407 - Autumn Festival theme) at the back of the ryokan, overlooking the old town with... More

Great location: three minute walk from the station, easy walk to the historic area. But… for $180 (one person, including dinner and breakfast) off-season I was underwhelmed. My room lacked a view and was more sparse than my room at the Buddhist monastery. There was a decent-sized spider web in the bathroom. The woman who checked me in at reception... More

Conveniently located in the town center and near the JR train station. This modern ryokan had wonderful rooms which were superbly clean. The public bath was thoroughly enjoyable especially the "outdoor" bath which allowed you to soak in the hot bath while enjoying the cool breeze blowing at you. The Hida Beef dinner was an experience in itself. Staff were... More

We stayed here for two nights, and although it was not our most authentic Ryokan experience, it was still quite nice. Our room was Western style, which means that the beds are permanent structures in the room, not prepared nightly on the floor. The service was most hospitable, the staff was very attentive and tended to our every need. They... More

it promises big and delivers little for the money it charges. now there isn't a lot of choices there but there are definitely some choices that are better just look. i paid too much and was not given what i thought is was paying for. i wanted a better view, a cleaner brighter room and so on. I've paid that... More

The ususal second to none customer service and hospitality from the Japanese. Great location, 2 minutes walk from the station, 10 minutes walk to the old town. Onsen is large and quiet. Room is lovely too. Love the Japanese coats provided for free at the reception area for a night walk.

After reading so many good comments on this ryokan from Tripadvisor and some famous guidebooks, we were ready for the best. Actually, this was the worst ryokan we ever experienced: room with no view, average food served in a dull dining room (plastic table cloths on the tables !) with the guests' national flags displayed on their tables (definitely un-refined!).... We stayed here two nights and could not have been happier. The room we had was quite large and very comfortable. During the day the room has a seating area and a table with several chairs. While you are at dinner, the rearrange the furniture and put your bedding out in the middle of the room. The meals were exceptional.... More

Yes. A stones throw from the railway station we would definitely return here. Certainly not a business man's hotel, this Ryokan was a joy to stay in. Not cheap but a real experience if you value the service and feel of a genuine Japanese experience this accommodation will meet your expectations. In a lovely town this ryokan offers comfort and... We loved this Ryokan! Its a stones throw away from Takayama JR station, literally a minute walk (cross the main road towards the Family Mart which is on the corner, walk about 100 yards up that road and take the first left). The staff were really friendly and accommodating, and as soon as you walk in you are given green... More
