Had a very warm welcome by the hotel staff when we first arrived. We were asked to changed into their Japanese slippers when we arrived. Little did we expect that they then took our shoes and cleaned them while we were checking in. What's more, they even cleaned the wheels of our luggages. And as part of our check-in, we... More

Having lived in Japan for 2 years and travelled hear regularly for many more I consider myself a Japanophile as well as someone who knows a thing or two about what good looks like. This property is great value for money and a really nice authentic experience. It is not the high end ryokan's that you find in Kyoto or... More

We stayed for two nights with our two children. For us the trying on yukato robes and just totally relaxing after a few frantic days in Tokyo was just great. We had the onsen to ourselves and that was just so nice. The rooms are perhaps a wee bit tired but it didn't detract from our stay. The bathrooms reminded... More

My daughter and I stayed here last month for a couple of nights. It was a fantastic buy at $180 for both, including breakfast and dinner. They were completely comfortable dealing with foreigners and made us feel welcome. Food was outstanding and plentiful - some of the best food we had in Japan, easily. My daughter loved the grilled fish... More

Staying here was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Because there is so much to see and do in Takayama we were here for eight nights and we were made to feel so much at home. We had a super room (407 - Autumn Festival theme) at the back of the ryokan, overlooking the old town with... More

Great location: three minute walk from the station, easy walk to the historic area. But… for $180 (one person, including dinner and breakfast) off-season I was underwhelmed. My room lacked a view and was more sparse than my room at the Buddhist monastery. There was a decent-sized spider web in the bathroom. The woman who checked me in at reception... More

Conveniently located in the town center and near the JR train station. This modern ryokan had wonderful rooms which were superbly clean. The public bath was thoroughly enjoyable especially the "outdoor" bath which allowed you to soak in the hot bath while enjoying the cool breeze blowing at you. The Hida Beef dinner was an experience in itself. Staff were... More

We stayed here for two nights, and although it was not our most authentic Ryokan experience, it was still quite nice. Our room was Western style, which means that the beds are permanent structures in the room, not prepared nightly on the floor. The service was most hospitable, the staff was very attentive and tended to our every need. They... More

it promises big and delivers little for the money it charges. now there isn't a lot of choices there but there are definitely some choices that are better just look. i paid too much and was not given what i thought is was paying for. i wanted a better view, a cleaner brighter room and so on. I've paid that... More

The ususal second to none customer service and hospitality from the Japanese. Great location, 2 minutes walk from the station, 10 minutes walk to the old town. Onsen is large and quiet. Room is lovely too. Love the Japanese coats provided for free at the reception area for a night walk.
