Went to takayama for a one night stay n was recommended this hotel by a friend. English speaking staff readily available at front desk which was quite rare in Japan countryside area. Check-in was fast. Funny thing about this hotel was that no shoes allowed past the front desk n you have to lock your shoes in lockers on ground... More

Arrival; We arrived quite late by train, great hotel for location as it is 3 minutes from the station. The lobby was very busy and full of not only people but shopping goods. The receptionist was lovely and confirmed he personally had taken our bags to our room (they were sent ahead as we were walking). Room; on the 10th... More

Stayed here recently for 3 nights and had a great time. Best thing about this place is the Onsens on the 13th floor...they make it all worthwhile, as otherwise the rooms are a little tired, but still comfortable, and the lifts are extremely slow which became a little frustrating after a couple of days. Western breakfast was just okay. Loved... More

We booked this hotel due to the reviews but were disappointed. We found this hotel outdated and smelled bad. There was a cockroach flying in our room. If you leave the window open to get fresh air, the train came frequently and noise was unbearable. We found out it will be about another 1 hour 45 minutes to take a bus... More

We stayed in this hotel for 1 night. You have to take off your shoes, before entenring the hotel, as you have to walk barefoot inside it. They put as in the smoking floor and the smell was disgusting, but in the other floors it was ok. The size of the room, small as expected. The location very convenient, close... More

We were very pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It is located close to the train and bus station and to Takayama centre. Our room was spacious and clean with a great view of Takayama and the mountains. The Japanese style rooms have tatami mat (fake) floors and mattresses on the floor (permanently, not the roll-out kind). The best thing about... More

Location is good for people who travel by JR but it is a little bit far from old city. Room is tiny and restroom is more tiny. The woman staff who checked me in the hotel is cold and not helpful at all. The other staffs seem to more friendly. The dinner are booking full and this girl told me... More

Takayama Ouan is a modern onsen hotel convenient for Takayama station. On the top of its 13 floors is the onsen with large bathing areas for men and women and also 3 private open air baths on a first come first serve basis. Rooms are a hybrid of Japanese and western styles with tatami flooring and a low bed. Rooms... More

Hotel is close to Takayama station. Take a left after coming out on main street and hotel is about 5 min walk away. There are no signs/name in english but it was easy to guess! Rooms are japanese style and one needs to put shoes in a locker near reception. Rooms has robes and socks for wearing inside and many... More

I spent a night in this semi-ryokan hotel and found my experience pleasing. The private bath and delicious breakfast were highlights of this place. It's very close to Takayama JR station. The only problem I found was that it was quite far from town's attractions but since I had no trouble walking, it was fine to me. Definitely return soon.
