A nice blend of traditional and modern. We received a warm welcome and the staff were wonderful throughout our stay. Enjoyed the brown lounge wear you get in your room! Beautiful decor in the room and views of the mountains. Good breakfast too.

If you're staying in takayama, this hotel is a no-brainer. The room was spacious(especially after just coming from tokyo), bedding was comfortable and large, clean, and you get a nice view of the city and it's affordable. It's got the nice traditional touches to the room to make you feel like you're in japan(no shoes), but you don't feel out... More

My husband and I loved this hotel. It provided us with some special experiences from Japan. Walking around without shoes, sleeping close to the floor but comfortably and wonderful hot baths. The clothing provided was an added bonus.

Located within a 5 mins of the Takayama Railway station, this hotel has everything you need. Relaxed atmosphere, walking distance to the web of the heritage area, great breakfast and very comfortable room. Takayama is a beautiful town set in the mountains. If you have time do the 2hour Sake Experience course and have a beer and Hida beef bun... More

It's a hotel rather than a ryokan, with a spa on the roof, close to the station, clean but rather basic, small rooms, does a decent breakfast. But our room was a bit uncared for, the paper screens were damaged, there were cigarette burns in the tatami, the shower was a primitive plastic pod in a worn state. The promised... More

Pretty entrance but crowded with people trying to get in and out, poor handling of crowds and little personal attention. Rooms clean but small although futons thicker than usual. Food average. This hotel seems to be caught between a traditional Ryokan and an overblown pseudo modern hotel which is crowded and busy. Nice Onsen on the top floor with good... More

We picked Takayama Ouan as a convenient location fairly near the station. The entrance area is quite engaging with its raised wooden floor and little shopping area; the breakfasts provide a very good variety of Eastern and Western food, beautifully presented; the hotel is extremely, extremely popular with onsen users. But the rooms are fairly small and there is very... More

We stayed there & had good time in Takayama. This hotel has good location, very closed to the station & easy to go to old town of Takayama. Room is clean, comfortable & we really enjoyed onsen bathing on the 6th floor. The lobby is noisy & narrow. Staffs are nice & friendly.

Old standard primitive city hotel trying demonstrate pretensions to high level. Noisy narrow reception hall. Narrow room. Spa (onsen) on the roof - interesting decision, but narrow as well. Standard not interesting breakfast. It seems that hotel is full of people in every place. The hotel is close to railway station (it is advantage) and look itself like station. It... More

The hotel is about 3 minutes walk from the JR. The room is just nice and comfortable. The highlight of the hotel would be private onsen but the Q is quite long. The waiting is occupied with massage chair and yakult drink. Mini ramen is served at late supper. The only concern is never bring a big luggage during winter... More
