The staff was super helpful at this unique Japanese hotel. Very nice, helpful & kind. The shuttle driver took us 'in-style' to the Takayama train station. Their vehicle was a Toyota Century (Japanese limousine- check it out on Google). We rented the room with a huge bath (Jacuzzi tub, tub #2 & sauna)....very plush! Didn't realize that we had meals... I took a Japanese style room (although I was solo). The rooms are modest, yet tastefully furnished, clean, and with a balcony and a nice view of Takayama. Room was quite spacious and very airy. I loved it. There is a kimono in the room, powder room with all the toiletry one may need. They have two onsens. One is... More

we spotted this place while visiting the morning market. Its attached to the side of a Ryokan and has large signage. The waitress was very friendly and spoke good English and there was also an english menu. There are only a couple of tables and then seats at the counter so if there are more than 2 people I would... Had a wonderful stay at Hiranoya Bekkan Takayama. Everybody from the driver, receptionists and the other hotlel staffs are very courteous, helpful and friendly, taking such good care of us. The location could not be beaten, around 15 minutes easy walk from the station ( but they pick you up anyway, who cares?), very near the red bridge to the... More

Takayama is a wonderfully quaint town with lots to see. Honjin Hiranoya absolutely matches the quaintness and takes it up a notch by having some wonderful accommodations. When we arrived at the ryokan, the customer service was stellar. I feel like every time I talk about customer service in Japan, I use words like "stellar", "amazing", and "perfect". And it's... More

We knew we wanted a ryokan experience and chose this hotel as it was "reasonable" compared to the others and had good reviews. We really loved this Japanese experience of sleeping on futons on the tatami mats, having a beautiful kayseki meal served in our room at a low table. We eagerly awaited to see what each beautifully prepared course... More
