Service, food, room, onsen, location, Internet, view, everything is great! We stayed at Honjin Hiranoya last time, it was great too. but think the experience in the annex is better. It is less luxury but offers everything necessary just enough and makes you very comfortable.

We stayed in this hotel during a holiday in Japan. The hotel is a typical Ryokan, very well organized. The welcome on arrival was wonderful, we were welcomed with gifts and they explained how a ryokan. The room was a typical Japanese room with tatami mats and panels. The view was over the river Takayama with the beautiful bridge. We... More

Excellent experience all round from staff, accommodations, food and location! All the staff from reception, room maids to waitresses were very friendly and helpful. They remember even the small details. For example, we were told that it would snow the next day when we were checking in to the hotel to which my daughter expressed her delight. The following day... Lovely location, right on the river in a very walkable town. All Takayama has to offer is right at your doorstep. Experience a traditional Ryokan, with the first nights traditional Japanese dinner served in your room by someone who acts more like your mother than a hotel employee! Breakfast is more substantial than a Holiday Inn, but not a wildly... More

We paid quite a lot for a superior room with river view. While the room was spacious and had a great view, we were expected more for the price. For a similar price in another location, we could have gotten a much large room with more amenities. Service was excellent. Onsens were good though not spectacular. Dinner was excellent, esp... Treat yourself to a traditional Japanese experience by staying at this hotel. You're treated like 1st Class the second you arrive. We had a personal Japanese maid who waited on us hand and foot (a bit much for someone like me who tends to be independent, but hey, I'm on vacation... Right??) The hotel staff was very accommodating and adjusted... More

The room is very clean and looks new . There's a vanity area with skin care for both ladies and men . The bathroom is of decent size . It's very near the old town area. In room dinner was good and the staff was very polite.

There's not much to applaud about the exterior architectural design of this hotel. It's a seven-storied mustard coloured box plunked right along the Miyagawa River next to the famous 'Red Bridge'. Inside, the hotel is built for comfort. The reception area is pleasant. There's a nice coffee shop just a couple of steps from the reception area that affords good... More

I was a bit apprehensive about spending this much on our stay in Takayama. This was our most expensive lodging in a 3 week trip in Japan. After looking at the TA reviews and deciding I wanted a "ryokan experience" I decided to go for it. We are a part of two older (55+) adults, our daughter (22) and her... More

Great place to get that traditional Japanese vibe happening. Arrival and check in smooth, lovely friendly staff. Rooms good size with traditional floor dining which was cool. This room also doubled for sleeping so after tea they would set up bedding for us. I sort of missed having the bed in the arvos to have a rest on but we... More
