My family had a wonderful one day experiences in Oyado Yoshinoya on my way to the Alpine route. Due to flight schedule, we arrived quite late in the evening but the host was still waiting for us, he showed us around and tried his best to explain the facilities with is limited English and make sure we feel welcomed by... We spent only one night there but the experience was very nice. The uncle that run the ryokan was so nice with us and even brought us the coffee in the morning. They cancelled the breakfast 'cos the lady was hospitalised a couple of days before, and they returned us the money and also paid us for the inconvenience. There's... More

It just seemed right to stay in a traditional ryokan when in Takayama, the Little Kyoto. If you haven't tried this type of accommodation yet, Oyado Yoshinoya is a perfect place to start experiencing the best of Japanese hospitality. This is our third time staying at a ryokan, and we would certainly do that again! Oyado Yoshinoya is about 15... More

Couldn't have wished for better accomodation for our two day stay in Takayama. Fantastic accomodation near the train station. The owners came across extremely caring and made us feel very welcome indeed. Google translate came in very handy if we had to communicate anything other than basic (we don't speak Japanese and their English is limited). We were provided with... More

We loved everything about staying at this family run ryokan. It's within walking distance of the train station and very close to many of takayama's attractions. The owners were very friendly and explained things well to us, despite the language barrier. Our room was large and very comfortable. The two breakfasts we had were the best we experienced whilst in... More

This was a highlight of our trip to Japan, run by a delightful couple who make you feel so welcome. We had a large room with a view of the street and the location is so close to the centre and the station it makes walking everywhere a breeze. I recommend the onsen, it's so relaxing.

This is a very charming ryokan ran by a small family. I love it how they will try their best to come out to greet me everytime they hear me coming back to the ryokan. It felt like home. The check-in process was very simple and personal where I was being introduced to all the must-see places in Takayama. I... More

It was our 2nd time staying at Oyado Yoshinoya...the first was in Oct-2012. Still as good as before! We stayed 2 nights and got the same comfortable large room for the 4 of us. Toilets and bathrooms are common-shared but very clean. Enjoyed the indoor private hot spring bath. Japanese-style breakfast and dinner (both include melt-in-your-mouth Hida beef) were really... What an enjoyable time we had staying with Masuzou & Keiko Watanabe in their delightful ryokan. So much so that we extended our stay by another two nights! Such a helpful and friendly couple, always going that extra mile to assist with anything. We were treated to a traditional Japanese breakfast on our first morning where we experienced a variety... This wonderful minshuku was quite a highlight of my 2 weeks in Japan. The family that owns it doesn't speak a huge amount of English, but they speak enough to properly introduce you to the place. The onsen, or hot spring bath, was particularly relaxing, and the traditional Japanese food was beautifully cooked. When I arrived, the owner gave me... More
