We only stayed for one night here, but would have loved to stay for two. The area is stunning - the mountain views are beautiful. It is the perfect location to go and explore Kamikochi from for a day trip, or to go up to the top of Shin Hotaka ropeway. The Nohi busses are efficient and easy to get... More

We were greeted by very friendly staff who showed us to our room offering tea and nibbles. The room was a lovely tatame mat room with futons and traditional Japanese decor (+TV & free wifi). We stayed 2 nights in Ryokan Gizan late March 2014 and it was still chilly, about -5 to 5 degrees. We thought the heating in a ryokan would not be as good as a hotel but we were so wrong!! The staff is extremely friendly and will go out of their way to meet your every need. Their English is sufficient to handle basic needs but of course they will appreciate if you at least try the odd sentence in Japanese.
