This ryokan is truly a hidden gem with less than 20 rooms. I was thoroughly impressed with the property and it's lovely private onsens with the most fabulous views that you thought you'd only come across in magazines. Imagine an onsen right next to a river. It really feels like paradise just soaking and enjoying the serenity and scenery. Even... More

We arrived here after an one night stop in Kamikochi, changing buses in Hirayu Onsen. The trip was a easy one and the scenery boast with views of cloud-shrouded green mountains. Location is absolutely fantastic, in the remote valleys of the Okuhida in the northern alps, right on the bank of the river opposite side of the bus station (less... More

Loved Yarimikan! It was a rainy Friday and we were not sure how to get to there from Shin Hotaka Ropeway (another amazing experience) so we called the Ryokan. A shuttle was outside the ropeway's doors withing 5 minutes! Once we arrived at the hotel a wonderful host served us hot tea and showed us our big and beautifully designed... More

After a day at the excellent Shin-Hotaka Ropeway we arrived at this fantastic onsen. The reception area is beautiful and they make you feel very welcome. There was a mix up with our booking and there were no Japanese rooms left so by a stroke of luck we were given a suite room. It was such a great room with... More

I walked there from Shin Hotaka Ropeway, along river, after hiking the mountains. It was a high quality historic ryokan. Onsen are beside river, and not busy. Very scenic. Open all night. Dinner is fabulous, with what seemed like 10 course meal. Local bus stop is nearby, cross river and its on other side but best to get directions as... More

The outdoor onsens was definitely the highlight of our stay. Great experience trudging through the snow at night and in the early morning to try out the different outdoor onsens. The one with the most beautiful view is the mixed bathing one - unfortunately for those who are shy about using this. As this place is not too crowded, there's... More

We booked 2 lower rate standard rooms. Upon arrival at Hirayu Onsen we called to request for their free pick-up from the bus stop near the ryokan (Nakau Kougen Gutchi Bus Stop). Once alighting from the bus there was a minivan waiting for us. Otherwise it would have taken us around 10 minutes slow walk. Check-in was smooth and we... More

If you are taking the bus, it's a 5mins walk from the Nakao Kogen Guchi bus stop. The amazing thing was the bus driver called ahead without our asking and then approached us to confirm our nationality and then got off the bus to show us the direction to go in the middle of a snow storm! The ryokan is... More

We went there for one night, as part of a 10 day trip through japan. Location is simply fantastic. It does time to get there though. There were plenty of baths, the indoor baths have the postcard view on the river and the mountains, the mixed outdoor baths are more enclosed, but still have a nice view on the river.... More

The Yarimikan is not for everyone. Sited in the remote valleys of the Okuhida, the Yarimikan is known for its seven atmospheric onsen baths, mostly rotemburo and interestingly, konnyoku (mixed bathing). The room we got was pretty moderately sized and came with not many frills. The food was good but not particularly memorable - although I have to say this... More
