This was my second visit to Takayama but was the first time in Hagi hotel. At the beginning, I was reluctant to book at this place given our last stay in Takayama was amazing but to my surprise, me and my family absolutely enjoyed our stay in this hotel and were amazed by the great value of it. Hagi offers... More

The Kanko Hotel sits on a hill next to the Ayuzaki Castle Ruins about 10 - 15 minutes walk from the old town area. This gives fantastic views over the old town in one direction and views over surrounding mountains in the other. The hotel itself is very spacious with lots of open space, wide corridors and a pleasant garden.... More

What a delightful start to our Japanese holiday it was, to stay at this traditional hotel. From our first welcome to our final farewell it was wonderful. Everything in the hotel showed care, from the smallest floral arrangement on the tables to the wall decorations. The staff were always keen to assist us. Each day we made good use of... More

Disclaimer: I went there on a field trip when I was on an exchange. All handling of bookings and communications with the hotels for setting this up was organised by the University. My classmates and I were only told that we were staying in a traditional ryokan. There was no mention of onsen nor where we would be staying. As... More

We stayed here for 3 nights in February 2014 and had a great time. Only a few of the staff were able to speak English well, however all of the staff were very friendly and helpful. We appreciated that each night an English dinner menu was provided on our table and the restaurant staff (and other guests!) tried to explain... More

We arrived by rental car and there were already two people at the main entrance to welcome us. They helped with our luggage, check-in and parked our car. When I got the car keys back, there was a nice souvenir attached to it, very nice touch. A tip, if you are driving from Shirakawa-go, do take the tolled highway, as... More

we booked 2 nights in this ryokan Hagi Hotel has a shuttle service from / to JT train / busstation, which is nice as the hotel is situated on top of a mountain just outside the city centre. Without luggage it is a nice walk to and from the city. The hotel itself has spacious rooms with a good size... More

This ryokan is perched on top of a hill overlooking Takayama. The rooms are large and nicely appointed, with very nice spa-like bathrooms. There are two onsens: a small indoor one on the roof and a larger outdoor one with good views. There is wifi in the lobby (also with great views) but not the rooms. The restaurant was pretty... More

- - the room: you actually get a little flat with several areas, with every hotel amenity one can think of and more: a shower, a bath, an empty fridge (so you can store your own drinks and not get them from a minibar in a ridiculous price) , a kettle and green tea, a balcony, nice decoration with fresh... We booked a two night stay in this traditional ryokan. The staff is awesome, very helpful and good english is spoken. The room was VERY large and well equipped. The only drawback is the location of the hotel which is far from the city center but offers a spectacular view!). If you arrive by train, there is free shuttle service... More
