We stay here one night to explore Takayama and Shikarawago. Huge room with everything you need. Onsen on site. Delicious dinner. They speak reasonable English. A lot of information on tourist attractions can be found here. There is a nice Teddy bear cafe just outside the premise.

We stayed here in mid-Feb and had a great time. When we arrived at the train station, the information centre was closed (about 17.15 on a Tuesday). So we just called the ryokan ourselves and they came down within 10 minutes to pick us up. Lucky for us at this time of year the Hida Folk Village is illuminated at... More

I literally only need to confirm that everything the reviewer below me has said (Cocotraveller365) is absolutely true. The place was great, really close to the folk village, which at this time of year is all lit up at night. The guy picks you up from the station and takes you back in the morning. Room was clean, warm, confortable... More

We are a family visiting Japan and loved this Ryokan (Japanese traditional Inn) experience at Ryokan Murayama. We loved the hot baths here, it is clean and all toiletries are provided. The rooms are futons on tatami floors. The futons worked wonders and fixed up my sore lower back. The owner is the most helpful host i have ever encountered.... More

We arrived here on a last-minute detour and thoroughly enjoyed it. The room was spacious and clean and the onsen was pleasant. Mr. Murayama was a knowledgeable and accommodating host, with the added benefit of excellent English. Laundry machine was another nice surprise! Carpeting was a bit worn if that sort of thing bothers you and little to eat in... More

Okay a bit tardy on this review, but this place did make a good impression and I wanted to give them due credit. I booked a room here for early Sept thinking it would be a good budget option at ¥3750(single room shared bath), and considering hotel prices I had seen around Japan I wasn't expecting too much for that... I stayed in Ryokan Murayama with my mom, my brother and my nephew for 2 nights. Initially it was said that the free shuttle service that could pick us up from Takayama station was only available from 2pm onwards. We arrived slightly before 12pm and made a call anyway. What a nice surprise, the shuttle could arrive within 10 mins.... More

Good quality for a fair price. Mr. Murayama is extremely helpful and his English is suprisingly good. He recommended us a tour to Shirakawago which was a great experience (with super nice guide Mr. Yamamoto) for a very good price. The dinner was quite ok. The only disadvantage is the distance from the city center.

The stuff at the hotel is extremelly friendly and willing to help with every issue or question. The rooms are clean and nice - having in mind the price it is definitely recommendable. It is located around 2km from the center, so you have walk a lot or use bus/taxi to commute.

We are surprise that the owner Mr Murayama can speak fluent English & he himself fetch us to & fro the Takayama station daily with free shuttle. The ryokan comes with a onsen & we enjoyed onsen every night after a long day of walking the whole town. Japanese breakfast is wonderful too. There is a Teddy Bear cafe just... More
