This property is great on paper: beautiful surroundings and a very friendly owner picked us up from the station! (the place is about 25-30 minute walk from the station). The ryokan was, however, extremely noisy. The cleaners would start to fix the rooms around 7-07.30 AM every morning, so we would wake up to either their very loud conversations or... More

Ryokan Murayama was exactly as advertised! When arrived at Takayama Station, we headed to the phone booth near the information counter and called the Ryokan. The shuttle arrived in 10 minutes as promised. The manager/owner helped us with our bags up the stairs and helped us check-in. He gave us a brief tour of the place which included the public... More

We stayed here with our 3 kids (16, 14 and 11). The rooms were largish and comfortable. The breakfast was superb ( japanese style) and was varied from day to day. It is a little out of town, but we rang from the station and our host came to pick us up. There were also regular shuttles into town. We... More

The Ryokan was clean with good sized rooms. The location was near the folk village so a bit out of town and local restaurants were often closed in June. The hotel has motor assisted bikes which were great for getting around. The family were friendly but sometimes not around.

This ryokan is situated 1,5 km from Takayama JR station, a short local bus or taxi ride. Near to Hida Folk village with old japanese buildings. Room was spacious and clean, There was enough futons to make our sleeping on tatami very comfortable. Yukatas and towels were provided. We used bath for families, it was fine experience. After all we... More

The place was very nice. The owners were very cute and hurry up to gave more choice of information when we asked for some helping. We booked a room with private bathroom (2 nights), which was very big when compared to all the other rooms we got in Japan. Murayama san manages his Ryokan brilliantly. He speaks great English, by the way. When we got to Takayama we used the pay phone outside the station and gave him a ring. He sId we should wait... More

After reading the reviews of this ryokan, I decided to book it...and am happy we did. Yes, it is a little ways out of town, but away from the crowds. We booked the room for two nights - no meals. We wanted did not want to commit to a time frame that often happens when staying at a ryokan that... More

Stayed at Ryokan Murayama in December for 2 nights and we wished we had stayed for longer, one of our favourite experiences in Japan. We were picked up from Takayama station (they have a shuttle bus that makes a few trips a day to the station & back) which was very handy considering Takayama was covered in snow!! We were... More

We stay here one night to explore Takayama and Shikarawago. Huge room with everything you need. Onsen on site. Delicious dinner. They speak reasonable English. A lot of information on tourist attractions can be found here. There is a nice Teddy bear cafe just outside the premise.
