We had originally intended to stay at Hirayu No Mori but unfortunately it was fully booked. Not having stayed there I can't vouch for how it compares. We wanted to experience a Ryokan at some point in our trip and found many of the options to be very, very expensive. We chose Okada Ryokan Warakutei because it was relatively inexpensive... More

A nice (but maybe a bit old) hotel with a good spa. The hotel itself is not that good looking (anymore) but the experience of a traditional Ryokan is great in itself. The spa is really good (we had it al to ourselves!) and the food is picture perfect (see the picture!). All in all a good choice if you... More

The roykan itself does not feel as old to me as some suggested in the comments. It is definitely not new but I would rather put it as "traditional", and I did not feel it is dirty by any standard. 5 of us arrived right before 6pm to have dinner after a long day at Tateyama alpine route and a... The room is ugly and dirty. The walls in the bath have lots of spots. The carpet and the tatamis have ugly spots. There are no plugs to charge your devices except behind the television. No WiFi in the room and the WiFi in the lobby was switched to 0 bit/sec at 2100. Some of the receptionists are not friendly.... More

This was my first ryokan experience which was good. The overall hotel was ok with traditional japan style especially the bed room. It’s about 15 minutes’ walk from bus station (I came from Matsumoto city). When reached hotel, I got the corner room which was the nice view around. It started snowing during my visit in the beginning of Dec... More

We stayed here for 5 nights as a family of 4 with 2 young children (ages 5 & 7). Because it's early summer, part of the hotel's exterior was undergoing maintenace, which is totally understandable. But what we didn't understand was why we were given a room which is right behind the scalfolding. So no view to speak of. Front... More

We chose to stay at Okada Ryokan because it is a relatively inexpensive accommodation option to access the nearby attractions of Kamikochi National Park and Shinhotaka Ropeway. We got what we paid for, but it suited our purpose. It is an aging hotel in need of a facelift and has nothing special to offer in terms of amenities, service or... More

Room is a little old dated -- but this is a ryokan style anyway!. The mattress could be better. The hotel management a little too rigid. They do not allow us to check in earlier though we arrived there early (at 11 noon) as the official check-in time is 3pm. We know it wasn't full occupancy on the same day... More

The traditional room is badly decorated and it is old. It really needs to be renovated. Besides, the television, the fridge and the electric teapot break all the charm of what a traditional ryokan would be. The bathroom is not in the best conditions, it seems a bit unhigienic. Not confortable with thw price paid (20000 ¥/night). Awful conection wi-fi... More

We've stayed at Okada Ryokan a couple of weeks ago as part of our Takayama festival tour and we were unpleasantly surprised by the condition of the bathroom in the room, there was mold in the bathroom, and it really smelled bad, the bathroom looked like it has not been really cleaned for quite some time. We actually used the... More
