This is a nice quiet place a little walk from the main tourist areas. We were picked up from the station and given a warm welcome on arrival. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. As noted by previous reviewer, the futons are very hard but I slept well on both nights. We visited in December during a heavy snow fall and... More

Very nice and very japanese hotel, with clean rooms covered with tatami mats and clean washrooms. As this was my first stay in a japanese hotel I was happy to find a leaflet explaining me how to setup the matress for the night. Small onsen that closes at around 10:30pm, excellent breakfast that I missed the first morning, as I... More

The staff were very friendly and their daughters enjoyed the treats given to them! Clean and although not very close to the centre its quite easy and a pleasant walk. They also had bikes that could be used free of charge which made things lots of fun especially in the rain.

we spent two nights in this guesthouse but because it was part of a packaged deal I cannot comment on the price/value. We were given a good room, and made ourselves comfortable pronto. The town itself is just a little far away so we were happy to be able to use complementary bicycles which made our stay so much more... More

This is a very nice traditional Japanese inn. We stayed here while on tour. Bathroom facilities are shared. You sleep on futons on the floor. Unfortunately, they are quite hard and are not very comfortable. A Japanese breakfast is provided, which is very good. We had dinner here one night and there was a huge variety of food. The inn... Would highly recommend staying at this place, as they include a train station pickup which is very handy as there are little taxis here and it is about a 20 min walk to the hotel. This is a family run traditional inn that we really enjoyed as they include tatami flooring, futon bedding, Japanese breakfast and both male and female... More

We stayed in this ryokan for 3 night during the Takayama Float Festival. The room is not large, about 6 tatamis, but sufficient large for us as we put aside the low japanese table in a corner so we can lay dow 2 futons and comforters. This ryokan has approximately 10 rooms spead on 2 storeys. There are 2 onsen... More

Stayed two nights at this place. We were picked up by their shuttle bus at the train station as this is sort of in the other end of town. This traditional style Japanese inn is bit old, but clean and well organised. Rooms something special. Toilets/baths to be shared the traditional way. Slippers provided (in small size) as shoes not... More

Great pick-up and drop off at the train station. It was also nice to stay in a traditional house and staff were friendly. It was very clean and the shared bathroom was fine. Its a little out of the centre but Takayama is v small and it's a nice walk so that was no big deal to us. When we... More

i've been almost 20 times in takayama, i always stayed in Iwatakan. this is a minshuku, or family run traditional inn, with clean small room, with japanese modern toilets and a ofuro (bathroom) large enough for 6 person of the same gender, outside, as the traditional way to clean yourself, in japan. efficient wifi available, wonderful dinner and breakfast to...
