This is a very nice traditional Japanese inn. We stayed here while on tour. Bathroom facilities are shared. You sleep on futons on the floor. Unfortunately, they are quite hard and are not very comfortable. A Japanese breakfast is provided, which is very good. We had dinner here one night and there was a huge variety of food. The inn... Would highly recommend staying at this place, as they include a train station pickup which is very handy as there are little taxis here and it is about a 20 min walk to the hotel. This is a family run traditional inn that we really enjoyed as they include tatami flooring, futon bedding, Japanese breakfast and both male and female... More

We stayed in this ryokan for 3 night during the Takayama Float Festival. The room is not large, about 6 tatamis, but sufficient large for us as we put aside the low japanese table in a corner so we can lay dow 2 futons and comforters. This ryokan has approximately 10 rooms spead on 2 storeys. There are 2 onsen... More

Stayed two nights at this place. We were picked up by their shuttle bus at the train station as this is sort of in the other end of town. This traditional style Japanese inn is bit old, but clean and well organised. Rooms something special. Toilets/baths to be shared the traditional way. Slippers provided (in small size) as shoes not... More

Great pick-up and drop off at the train station. It was also nice to stay in a traditional house and staff were friendly. It was very clean and the shared bathroom was fine. Its a little out of the centre but Takayama is v small and it's a nice walk so that was no big deal to us. When we... More

i've been almost 20 times in takayama, i always stayed in Iwatakan. this is a minshuku, or family run traditional inn, with clean small room, with japanese modern toilets and a ofuro (bathroom) large enough for 6 person of the same gender, outside, as the traditional way to clean yourself, in japan. efficient wifi available, wonderful dinner and breakfast to... Our group was collected from the bus station by the minshuku's own free shuttle bus. This is handy as it is a 20 minute walk away. This is a budget stay and some of the fixtures and fittings are a bit dated, but don't let that put you off. There is a lovely shared onsen area, one side of which... More

Went late December with husband. It is a twenty minute walk from the train and bus station and it was snowing heavily but as the minshuku provides free shuttle service ( not mentioned when booked), we called in to be picked up. Apparently this a service available to everyone. We later found this location was actually really convenient because all... More

I spent two nights in this minshuku. My room was on the small side of things and essential, but clean. The toilets were communal and also clean (which was something I had been concerned about, but for no reason). The onsen was nice and kept to a toasty temperature - excellent for relaxing after a long day of walking around.... More

incredible food (when staying there dinner is a must), free pickup and dropoff from Takayama station (property is about 20 min. walking from station), location is a little remote, but ok, love the small onsen baths in shared bathrooms (but common baths are quite bizzare for european standarts), rooms (traditional style) are really comfy, little pricey
