This review is long overdue. We were there in Dec14. This ryokan is within walking distance from the train station as well as the Takayama Old Town. We arrived early before lunch, so we left our bags at the ryokan and headed out for a walk to the Old Town. When we return to the ryokan in the afternoon, our... More

Traditional japanese hotel (not a real ryokan which are much more expensive) loceted just 10 walking minutes from the train station and all sightseeings. I had to smile at finding at the entrance my name written on a wood plank similar to those indicating the sponsors of buddist temples. You have to take the shoes off to enter the building.... More

The hotel is very nice in a traditional ryokan style. The rooms are very nice and clean with nice clean bedding. Our room had the bathroom en suite in addition to a sitting area that overlooked a small garden. My complaint is that for the cost their should either be wifi in the rooms or the staff should not allow... More

It is more like a half hotel and half ryokan. A large hotel rather successful in trying to give us a more personalised ryokan experience. Perfect location within walking distance to the railway station and to the centre of town and all main attractions. In fact, this is a walking town anyway. The welcome and service could not be faulted.... More

If I were Japanese, and I had a grandma, this is how I would imagine they would pamper me. The dining experience is totally surreal. You can even wear a kimono to dinner if you so wish. As for the food, i tasted delicacies i was unable to identify... But they were so delicious, i could just eat them for... More

The hotel has very good location just in the heart of historical district, and from other side, close to railway/bus station. This is really old building, it seems rebuilt several times from smaller houses. I t looks like Japanese geisha house from film. Inside is geisha's time atmosphere as well, narrow unclear corridors, inner small garden. Narrow spa available. The... More

It was the second night in Takayama and we had the right choice to stay at Hodakaso Yamano Iori. The price was very reasonable compared with what we got. Lovely and spacious room. Nice service. Great location. We had a baby stroller but the entrance was not much comfortable for the wheel access so we had to carry the stroller,... More

3 of us stayed for 3 nights in a Japanese Room. This is very cramped accommodation, our suitcases had to go in a small hallway cupboard just inside the front door that had very poor light, so it was guess work to get stuff out of your bag. There were 2 very comfy chairs in the room that were well... More

A good opportunity to experience a more traditional Japanese guest house. Compact but comfortable bedroom with the traditional futon bed and tatami mats. We had an en suite bathroom but also made use of the large onsen bath house which was excellent and free of charge. Meals were available in a Japanese style dining room. The wifi worked well but... This ryokan was about 10 minutes from the JR station. well placed in the city. Quiet neighbourhood. The rooms were clean and had nice amenities including private toilet. We had breakfast included and we enjoyed a traditional japanese breakfast, beautifully prepared and quite delicious and filling.
