It is a lovely ryokan! Room size is big if compared with Japanese standard room size! Toilet and bathroom inside the room so quite convenient..only a ten minute walk from takayama Nouhi bus station so it is quite convenient! Breakfast is okay, one of the experience to remember nicely. The staff mostly ladies and are very kind and helpful...this ryokan... More

The Hodakaso is so discrete that you passed it over twice, before we could finally find it. the reason why, is that we were seeking an usual hotel advertising, and this one looks like a traditionnal ryokan house. The room was overlooking a small garden. Tatami floor, rice paper doors and windows, low japanese furniture, all the ingredients were gathered... More

We stayed here for two nights in October in a Japanese twin room with its own bathroom facilities. There are many very good aspects about Hodakaso Yamano Iori: - it is easy to get to from the station (no more than 5 minutes walk on level ground). There is a small information office right outside the station that can guide... More

Everything was great about our stay - the room was clean and had everything we needed. If you would like to experience traditional Japanese living - this ryokan would be a great choice. It is close to the JR Takayama station and the bus terminal, and is also close to the town's major sights like the old city. In spite... More

We arrived in Takayama in the middle of a festival, which was amazing. I highly recommend going to whichever Japanese town has a festival going on, it's mind-blowing. The room was huge, with a decent sized private bathroom, and it's own sliding doors onto the garden. Everything about it was great, and the hotel had a good-sized on-sen which I... More

Centrally located only five minutes’ walk from the train station. The inn definitely showed some wear but was very comfortable. We spent two nights in a very clean Western-style room with the top of the mattress about 15" off the tatami mat floor. Separated by paper covered sliding doors was a small sitting room with wood flooring and a small... More

The hotel is a ryokan, a typical Japanese accommodation. The wooden and paper room was clean and really particular and the little veranda was so cute! It is really close to the station and to the center of Takayama. Unfortunately the staff speak a very little bit of English. We chose the western breakfast, but it was not really western... More

I felt like this was the most Japanese place I stayed in Japan. Takayama is a great place to visit and I would definitely reccommend staying here. The hotel staff don't speak much english but that was fine with me. Everything was clean and as expected. The onsen was lush if a little too hot in July! Location is great,... More

We just stayed two nights at this ryokan. A truly great Japanese experience. The town is quaint and scenic and this ryokan made us feel like we were truly experiencing Japanese culture and tradition. The food was an experience - many times we didnt know what we were eating and the staff speaks very limited English, but we tried everything... More

The hotel is a dream! if you've been looking to stay and experience a true Ryokan style then stay here. it's not cheap but you'll get what you pay for. I stayed in a triple room with the other 2 friends, futon style. The futon is thick and comfy. The room is so nice, quiet and charming. The location is... More
