3 of us stayed for 3 nights in a Japanese Room. This is very cramped accommodation, our suitcases had to go in a small hallway cupboard just inside the front door that had very poor light, so it was guess work to get stuff out of your bag. There were 2 very comfy chairs in the room that were well... More

A good opportunity to experience a more traditional Japanese guest house. Compact but comfortable bedroom with the traditional futon bed and tatami mats. We had an en suite bathroom but also made use of the large onsen bath house which was excellent and free of charge. Meals were available in a Japanese style dining room. The wifi worked well but... This ryokan was about 10 minutes from the JR station. well placed in the city. Quiet neighbourhood. The rooms were clean and had nice amenities including private toilet. We had breakfast included and we enjoyed a traditional japanese breakfast, beautifully prepared and quite delicious and filling.

We were having holiday in japan for 23days in December, and we stayed in this ryokan. Booked the hotel via email, and has been staying in this ryokan in 2012, 2013 and this year. For 2013 and 2014, we stayed there for a night just to enjoy the Hida beef which is my husband favourite. We were there a day... More

Stayed 2 nights in this cosy Japanese managed ryokan. Need to remove our shoes at the entrance and walk around the ryokan in the slippers provided. Our room is on the 3rd floor (top). Comes with a toilet but no bathroom. Need to go to the public bath to bathe. Can smell the cooking during breakfast and dinner time. We... More

Our room came with a private bath and toilet. It was spacious and cosy. The windows open to a decent view although we were close to the building next to the ryokan. We ordered the breakfast set which was a Japanese meal. It was a very good meal. I would come back to stay here if I were coming to... More

We stayed in this ryokan for 2 nights. Had dinner for one night and breakfast on both days. The dinner was sumptuous and definitely worth it to have it for at least one of the nights. Breakfast was great too with the choice of western or Japanese style. We tried the onsen on both days and was lucky that no... More

Traditional ryokan, which depends on your booking, may not come with private bathroom. Try not to say right on top of the dining hall for you may smell food during meal time. The room is big enough for 3 person, but the public bath is small, and the pool is may be enough for about 5 to 6 people. Come... More

It is a lovely ryokan! Room size is big if compared with Japanese standard room size! Toilet and bathroom inside the room so quite convenient..only a ten minute walk from takayama Nouhi bus station so it is quite convenient! Breakfast is okay, one of the experience to remember nicely. The staff mostly ladies and are very kind and helpful...this ryokan... More

The Hodakaso is so discrete that you passed it over twice, before we could finally find it. the reason why, is that we were seeking an usual hotel advertising, and this one looks like a traditionnal ryokan house. The room was overlooking a small garden. Tatami floor, rice paper doors and windows, low japanese furniture, all the ingredients were gathered... More
