The Posada Plaza Mayor is in a terrific location in the old part of Colonia del Sacramento. The building itself is a historic building, and our room was charming -- stone walls, high ceiling, etc. -- but was very comfortable. Our room opened up onto a courtyard which contained a 19th century fountain. The breakfast was wonderful and served in... More

The location is perfect: in the old historic part of the town. The room was a bit dark, but with atmosphere. The courtyard is quiet with a small fountain. The front desk staff was helpful. Clean rooms. I can recommend this place to everyone who loves original historic building.

I read some of the other reviews and perhaps we loved this place so much because it was at the end of an arduous driving trip across Uruguay where the accommodations were frequently minimalist. It's whitewashed exterior with flags flying make it easy to spot just around the corner form the main square in the historic district. The courtyard is... More

Lots of character and a beautiful courtyard. Clean and well presented but the upstair's most basic rooms as booked by our South American agent are too small to be enjoyed. Their bathrooms and access to their toilet are too small and problematic. The downstairs rooms looked very nice if lacking some privacy if courtyard doors or street windows were open.... More

Why not stay in an Unesco World Heritage site? We had a superior double room, very clean, comfortable, and in a stunningly refurbished colonial-era building. The architecture was beautiful, and the garden courtyard was so dreamy, with flowers and night-blooming jasmine scenting the air. The breakfast was good, with a view of the river. Staff were helpful and friendly. Highly... More

A lovely historic hotel in the heart of the old town just off the main plaza. It has a lovely courtyard and a beautiful upstairs breakfast room. The rooms are small, but evocative. Very nice staff. It is a bit irksome that they allow small walking tours to come into the courtyard. A bit expensive for what it is. No... More

Excellent location in old town. We had a junior suite (last minute upgrade from bookings. com). Beautiful room with comfortable bed and small bathroom. Pretty inner courtyard. Very mediocre and disappointing breakfast buffet with no service: Instant coffee, supermarket bread and non-descript pastries. Few services in the hotel

This hotel is a colonial construction very well cared for. The front desk staff could be a bit more proactive. I asked for a hotel brochure and it took the lady love minutes to locate one. The central, inner, garden, is precious, and the rooms are individually well heated/aired. The location is superb.

Located in the centre of the historical area, this is a pretty hotel with attractive rooms. You really couldn't be more central. The staff were very pleasant & helpful. Breakfast is Ok, just basic. Very handy to local restsurants & of course the historic area.
