Hotel is well positioned in the historic district and, at first glance, is charming. I was not crazy about our first floor room right off the lobby as it was noisy late into the night. Cenrally located and within easy walking distance of Restuarants and shops, this one time Government Building is within the original confines of the old walled town. there are many hotels in Colonia, all good, most of them of standard luxury standard but mostly missing that little extra that makes a hotel a special experience. My first trip to Colonia, and was greatly disappointed on the lodging, amenities, it's old and not kept up. Right next door, and incredible property called Posada El Capullo, a single went for ten dollars less than Posada del Gobernador. The hotel is lovely. My biggest gripe is that the lighting in the rooms is dismal. Our room on the first floor had a queen size bed and could have easily fit four queen size beds. Hotel is centrally located in the historical town and staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a very large and comfortable double room/suite on the ground floor (i believe rooms on the first floor are smaller). Hotel was clean and quiet. Laundry rates are very reasonable and clothing returned within 12 hours! Recommended.
