My dolmus from the Iranian border stopped right in front of this hotel in Van's city center. The hotel is located in the city center. Friendly and English speaking staff, clean rooms and good beds. The hotel does not have a restaurant but a bar at the first floor.

We stayed at this place for one night en route from Van to Mardin. The hotel lobby has been refurbished and looks much better than the pictures on Trip Advisor with lots of seating in the lobby areas with good wifi. The hotel also offers wifi on every floor although we could only get it in the landing not in... More

The staff were friendly, several spoke English, and they willing to give advice even to independent travelers. Despite Lonely Planet's description, the rooms do not have AC, explained by the manager by the fact that it cools down at night in Van. This is true outside, but when I was there there was very little breeze, and it took a... More

I have used Otel Buyuk Asur several times over the past few years and it has always been the same reliable place. It went through major renovations after the earthquake and became much more elegant than ever while preserving its welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The staff is very helpful. Location is excellent, close to all minibuses, restaurants, shops, bookshop, breakfast... More

I stayed there 3 nights. The hotel is very well situated. The room was large enough and very clean, with tv. Staff is very helpful and can speak english. Only inconvenient (minors to me) : no air con in the room and breakfast isn't so nice.

Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights in August. Location is excellent, staff speaks English. Rooms are large. Wifi on every floor. However, there is no air conditioning in the room, and the shelf in our bathroom has been broken.

Van doesn't have a very large amount of properties and the Buyuk Asur, is probably the best compromise. It's clean, centrally located and the rooms are comfortable (although a little expensive for a 2 star hotel). More luxurious (but at what point?) are Tamara Hotel (also in the city centre) and the Rescate, very badly located on a highway in... More

I stayed at the Buyuk Asur for five days in late May 2012. Location: central Van, close to the intersection of the two main streets. Not to say there's a problem with noise. There isn't. Close walk to 'breakfast street' (but ask for directions) and a reasonable walk to the various dolmus departure points out to the various attractions. The... More
