First time to Turkey, went as a single (wife working) and to use Marmaris as cheap base to explore Mugla area. Chaotic impression of Marmaris center on the transfer bus, the bus stopping at The Grande Azure (the posh hotel) and I walked 300 yds to the small Hotel in a backstreet.
The basic rooms suited me and the staff quiet and friendly. Pleasant bar area with deco motor collection items(owner collected various motor vehicles, American cars, Russian Lorry etc). Rooms being refurbished some with a view. Small outside swimming pool, nice to sit by. This place fitted the bill, great breakfast and a restaurant that was well regarded by Turkish business people. Owner had important day job with Airlines and Tourism in Mugla area.
Shopping is a hassle in the town, I would love to train the locals to sell and present themselves better (for their sake). Apparently they come down from villages and stay for the season and thats it. They have poor skills and only hassle. NB. I have... more
