If you've read Orhan Pamuk's _Kars_, it will illuminate everything that happens to you in Kars. The desk guy at the Gungoren was playing some sort of weird psych games with the prices and rooms. First he showed us to a small room for TL120. We said OK, but after a few minutes in the room which was a box,... More

I didnt find this hotel as bad as the other reviews. My room 301, was okay for a solo traveller. The reception staff were friendly and that always gives me my first impression. I agree that breakfast was bad as the butter and cheese were off and choices were very limited. Also security is a problem. I closed my window... More

Overall, very bad and dirty hotel, I advise strongly not to stay there, not even for one night. This is one of the worst and dirtiest hotel I have ever been to. The room was dirty: cigarette ash, needles, pigeon feathers on the floor. It smelled of cigarette smoke very strongly, mixed with deodorant smelling like chewing-gum. Everything looked worn... More

In our three weeks (pretty budget) journey through Turkey this was definitely the worst accommodation we found… and among the most expensive too. We got there exhausted after a long trip, so we just held our breath and kept the room - otherwise we would have just run away as we'd seen this place. The room was one of those... More

My husband and I had reserved a double bed, which to our surprise meant a room with a double bed and a twin bed. When we said that we wanted a room with 1 double bed, after much deliberation with the front desk (due to the small English spoken) we were moved to a "single room" which has 1 double... More

In Lonely Planet this Hotel was described as "Top Choice". But we had our worst room at Gungoren Hotel during our 2-week-trip all through Turkey. We made a phone-reservation and when we arrived they said that the hotel was unfortunately full. but then after some moments - magically - they gave us one of the old, shabby and not renovated... (Note: This is a hotel, though it isn't listed under hotels - it's under "other" for some reason.) It's not a bad hotel and at -39c the heat was the most important t thing to us, and it was great. The staff was friendly enough, but you don't see any women working I. This hotel, and a woman's touch is... More

We stayed September 2013. The manager speaks English, although he may not let on. We booked and confirmed via email, but when we arrived the booking had mysteriously disappeared. A room was offered at an inflated price. Fortunately I had a copy of the email. The room was one of the better rooms ( not the shabby ones on the... More

Gungoren Hotel is as good as it gets in Kars but keep your expectations low. Smoky rooms and tattered carpets but the Management are friendly and helpful and the hotel is generally clean. There is an elevator or staff will help with bags on steps, calling a taxi or arranging a tour to Ani (our reason for visiting).. Breakfast was... More

we stayed 3 nights in this hotel. the (new) rooms are ok, though you have to support some cigarette smoke of neighbouring rooms through the aircon. more important though, if you want to make sure you leave this place with ALL your belongings stay away as have been stolen some USD in a well hidden place of our backpacks...
