Have just spend 3 nights at the Anantara. Staff were lovely and very efficient. Pool was great but on the cold side. Only did an elephant trek while we were there which was a bit hair raising but good fun. Watched them bathing in the river. Very peaceful location after all the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. Maybe should have... more

Amazing hotel, a but tired in the bathroom, but really nice and quite overall. Mahout training is a must! You get so close and intimate with your elephant, great experience! Everybody at the hotel is smiling, tries to do their best to help you to enjoy your time. Food is really really good, on the expensive side, but worth every... more

Spent three days here after taking a Mekong riverboat from Luang Prabang to Chiang Khong, where the hotel had a driver to meet us - and it was heaven; a cool aircon car, chilled water and cold towels. In fact we spent a day with 'luxury shock' it was so nice after out travels in Laos. And this is a... more

Spent 6 wonderful nights at the Anantara. Every member of staff did everything possible to make our stay special from the lady who cleaned the room showing us how to fold towels into elephants and swans to informal Thai lessons in the bar. The Elephant camp was one of the reasons we chose this hotel and it did not disappoint.... more

This was the second destination from our Honeymoon in Thailand. We came from Bangkok and what a difference just over an hours flight can make! This Hotel is beautiful. I loved it. We flew into Chang Mai which is a four hour connection by car to Chang Rai. The connection was fine and the pick up staff were really friendly.... more

We arrived after a long trip from Bangkok to be greeted by wonderful staff and a very efficient check in service. The manager Boda, came to personally welcome us and wish us a Happy Honeymoon. The hotel is authentic, rustic even which was a lovely change from the modern chrome hotels in Bangkok. It was simply beautiful. We were taken... more

Traveling the second time to Thailand and Anantara. Stayed there for 2 nights on the 24 Aug. Last year we stayed at the Anantara Maldives which is 100 % better then this one. Room was not ready upon check in, had to wait for over 10 min until a server offered me a drink in the Bar for lunch. Bathroom... more

We just spent a few days at the Anantara, enjoying the remote reaches of Thailand. The hotel is lovely and the place to stay when visiting Chiang Rai. A few comments. It is better for couples or families with older kids than those with young kids (like ours). Food and beverage will set you back - and the hotel and... more

Given this is the luxury end of the hotel, the artfully designed setting of the room, the lobby and the pool is just expected. The quality of the food is fairly good too. Other than that, we are not impressed. Given there were no more than five people in the hotel at the time, we were given a room at... more

Management response from
Bodo Klingenberg, General Manager

We are extremely sorry to hear of the client’s dissatisfaction, but would like to take the opportunity to clarify a couple of points: the hotel is perched along the ridge of a hillside, affording glorious views of neighbouring Myanmar and Laos, surrounded by dense woodland and bamboo forests. With only 77 rooms in total, which are located in two wings...

We were thoroughly enchanted with the Anantara! So much so that we opted out of our scheduled tour (not through the hotel) so that we could spend our time at the Anantara and didn't regret it for an instant! Yes the meals at both restaurants are expensive.. bit we didn't find them any more than the other 5 star resorts... more
