After four days in the tea trails, we are booked in to three days at the Amangalla, one of two hotels run by the Aman group. The beauty of the hotel is in its resistance to cram the building full of rooms (only 28 rooms where it could easily accommodate half as many again) and to maintain the richly wooded... More

We only stayed one night in the Amangalla Hotel but it was long enough to experience first class service, friendliness and gorgeous food. The pool is beautiful and the rooms are spotless and full of character. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and it has inspired me to check out other Aman hotels on the web.

The historic main building within the fort area has been beautifully redone. And obviously the location could not be better, on the highest area of the fort area and near everything, but more open than some places so good breezes. The long porch at the front of the hotel for meals, tea or drinks is gorgeous and cool during the... More

A really beautiful renovation of an iconic colonial hotel. Room outstanding. Lobby and verandah area worth a detour ( and used by loads of non residents which makes for congestion). Pool serene. Incomprehensible staff assignments so several people ask your order then forget to pass on this info while you wait. Unbelievably slow and erratic service results. A minor irritant... More

We had an altogether great lunch here...food was good, wine was excellent, service was friendly and professional. It was a lovely stop during our self-guided walking tour of Galle and gem buying excursion!

I'd like to start by saying that I can't understand, for the life of me, why so many people are trying to trash this first rate, uber-luxurious hotel. I've been lucky enough to enjoy stays in a lot of 5 star accommodations, and I have to say that Amangalla was amongst the top 3 in terms of service, cleanliness, attention... More

We spent three nights there. Very comfortable and large room/bathroom. The bath products were very good quality. Our butler Indika took exceptionally good care of us. The men who cleaned the room were always available. Spent mornings at the pool observing the lone iguana. Very nice library. Had drinks and high tea on the third floor overlooking the rooftops. Very... More

This place is extremely expensive and not worth it. The noise level from the nearby mosque was constant at night. The bath products were awful. I felt ripped off from the moment we entered this pretentious establishment. The food was mixed, depending on the meal. The security was strangely lax. I would not recommend this place. It is overrated and... More

The Aman experience was first rate. We stayed in a family suite which was HUGE! We found the service and attention to detail absolutely first class and would love to return. Location in Galle Fort was excellent so very easy to just head out and potter around the area and explore. The sun leaves the pool area quite early in... More

Amagalle is 'the' luxurious colonial establishment to visit or stay in in Galle. It is far from inexpensive but we always choose to dine here when in Galle Fort. It is the place where one can soak in the atmosphere of the Dutch and colonial buildings whilst enjoying food and drinks on the lovely terrace adjacent to the street. In... More
