This is an atmospheric colonial style hotel. The rooms could do with some sprucing up but they are comfortable enough. However, the views of the sea are superb and there is a relaxing garden area. However, the pool and the bar area is where we spent most of our time. The bar staff are very helpful and attentive and went... More

We stayed one night at the Closenberg toward the end of our trip to Sri Lanka. The room was fine, but not particularly clean or up-together. The view from the balcony of the beach was fantastic. The cocktail bar and infinity pool are just amazing, but sadly do not seem to fit in with the feel of the rest of... More

The Closenberg is ideal if you want an colonial style, local hotel when you visit Galle. The infinity pool with a great view of the surfers and mind expanding cocktails was a favourite of ours. The staff were brilliant and service with a smile was for once exactly what you get! The place is a little faded, but that is... More

My girlfriend and I stayed two nights at this from the outside and on paper quite terrific hotel with an outstanding location. However, we quickly realized that it lacked maintenance and the standards of cleaning dissapointed as well. In our room we had i minibar fridge which was dirty - and only half full. The infinte pool was somewhat disgusting... More

We visited the Closenberg to eat and drink at the poolside bar six times during dec/jan. Each time, we were impressed by the bartender and his amazing cocktails! Prakash makes an excellent cocktail- we particularly loved the Singapore Sling (it's better than the Raffles one, by far) and Mojito, but also enjoyed his creative cocktails, made according to what was... What a Hotel, location is truly wonderful overlooking the sea, best done in their horizon pool some 100 foot up. The restaurant is high Victorian with Hepplewhite style furnishings and coral sculpture the only drawbacks are that the room we had is getting a little tired and the chef is not of the order the Hotel deserves, still well presented... The Closenberg Hotel is a fine example of how the other half lived in colonial times. It was originally a private home and despite its grandeur and conversion to a luxury hotel, maintains an intimate ambience. The dining room has original antique, wooden furniture and serves a la carte and Sri Lankan fare. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed... More

What a bad experience after being here one week. Really, everything needs maintain/repair/replacement! The pool has a lot of mold and other dirt in it, I can recommend no one to go in there. Yes, great infinity pool, but dirty as you can not imagine. The chairs and the floor in front of the pool are covered in red ants,... More

Closenberg is not your average hotel. First of all its not in the Fort so you'll need to travel to get anywhere unless you're going for a swim or surf, in which case there's a beach 5 mins walk away. The main building itself is very old (1800's) and interesting and has been run as a hotel since the 1960's.... More

It is a hotel with a great location and a really nice infinity pool - filled with water when we were there. I do not recommend eating in the restaurant. Orded from the a la carte menu, grilled tuna with avocado, tomato and mashed potatos. When it arrived it did not have any avocado or tomato just some very sad... More
