We recently went to Galle for the first time, and had a great experience staying at Mama's. Jerome and his staff were extremely helpful--calling around and making arrangements for us (resto reservations, transport bookings, checking opening hours, etc.), keeping our baby entertained, and generally seeing to our every need. The rooms were large, clean and comfortable. There were minor inconviences... More

We spent a night at Mama's on a friend't recommendation and were blown away by the hospitality and friendliness of the staff. The place has an old colonial feel to it, and the 2 guest rooms are simple, but nicely furnished and decored. The location is in the fort, with a super-quiet and relaxed vibe - like time is standing... More

I stayed at Mama's for one week, and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. There are only two guest "rooms"; each room actually being comprised of several spaces. The room facing the antique street (it is upper level- so private, and quiet enough- not much traffic in the fort), with foyer (including wardrobe and bench), bedroom with colonial furniture, mosquito netting and... Great, caracterful place to stay in Galle. Food one of the best we had in Sri Lanka, cannot recommend it enough, typical sri lankan breakfast with excellent fresh fruit, curries in the evening were wonderful, quite authentically spiced unlike many places on the coast where we had some really disappointing experiences trying to get some local food. Rooms in the... More

The double rooms here are suite size, the downside is the lack of a view of any sort unless you go and sit in the roof top resturant. Rooms are very clean and comfortable but the room I had was above the kitchen with consequent noise in the evening, as things close down early it doesn't really interfere with sleep.... More

We stayed for a night and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms are large and unique and the rooftop restaurant is lovely - however this experience could be amazing - the rooms are a little tired - and if they spend a bit of money to refresh the paint on the walls and style it up a bit, they could... We arrived at Mama's under grey skies, but Galle Fort was soon working its charm. Mama's only has two rooms. We had room 2, which in the world of slightly plusher hotels would be called a suite. It had a lovely little entrance room, a large bedroom and a bathroom bigger than many a bedroom. The best bit was the... More

We absolutely loved Mama's and, though I haven't stayed elsewhere in Galle, will assert that this charming little place just might be the best guesthouse in town. You'll definitely want to stay within the old fort walls, and Mama's is brilliantly located towards the southern part of the old town, which means a short 3-minute walk to the walls for... More
