We have just stayed 2 nights at Lunuganga and it was among our favorite in Sri Lanka despite we stayed also in Bentota in another lovely Bawa property this one is very unique. It should not be considered as a hotel but as a secret to enjoy for those travelers looking for a a short or longer retreat and those... More

Ever heard of Geoffrey Bawa ? Famous Sri Lankan architect who died 10 years ago, and was one of the most wellknow architect in Asia. Wether you do or not, don't miss Lunuganga. This place has a soul, which is miraculously alive thanks to two formers students of Geoffrey Bawa, Michael and Asha. Both are architects, both are knowledgeable about... More

Lovely place, felt like being transferred back to Britain with a tropical twist. Lovely and informative guide. Amazing staff. Hotel rooms looked lovely, sadly no children policy so we could not stay. You can book yourself for lunch before visiting. Booking is essential as it will be cooked just for you. Don't miss if interested in design and architecture.

The country home of G Bawa - with the jungle trying its best to reclaim and the conservators to repel with dignity - the home and gardens are being preserved as best they can be. While the employees would like to make you welcome it appears they aren't entirely sure how to achieve same. For Australians the various paintings and... More

Make this a 'must do' on your itinerary! Superlatives are inadequate to describe this place. This is the famed Geoffrey Bawa's secuded estate where he spent most of his life, the architecture is stunning. There are few straight lines in the gardens where everything works harmoniously with the surroundings. The gardens flow around the buildings which are inconspicuously blended in... More

We came just for several hours from Bentota to see Geoffrey Bawa's secluded estate. The garden and all the houses are very well maintained and look beautiful. The owners provide all the guests with guided tour, which includes not only the information about Geoffrey Bawa and his works but also many interesting comments on the surroundings and nature, which is... really far away from the city, rainy and cool weather, we travel a long time to the hidden heaven, like travelling back to the old times, the shelf, the telescope, the manor and the serious host, really a architecture!

Our second visit, this time with Architect's friends from Thailand. Whereas the first time visit was on a hot and sunny day, this time we visited in on and off pouring rain. The garden, the house and the bungalow rooms which we toured with the experienced guide offered a complete different impression. Ideal for black and white photography, this mood... More

You can opt to either visit or staying at Lunuganga. This palatial mansion was once a residence of the great master architect, Geoffrey Bawa. He's known to come up with the "tropical modernism" movement and for those of us that are enthusiastic with architecture, coming here is a pilgrimage to appreciate Geoffrey's brilliance. He's so much ahead of his time,... More

It felt like a rare privilege to stay at Lunuganga. Our senses were awakened to the aesthetics. We came away mesmerised by the shades of green, shapes, proportion, balance - subtle beauty that we had not previously appreciated. The meals on the verandah were excellent with a sublimely understated backdrop. But the highlight was wandering the gardens alone early in... More
