I am happy to give this hotel a five-star rating. Staff patient and kind, delightful historic decor, great food. I am sorry for those that want a more updated look. There's other lodging near by. Me? I would like to come back even if I don't visit Albany usually. BTW, the guest wifi was awesome!

Wow! If it were 1994 I would say this was the most modern and hip place to stay. But it's very dated, average and tired. The rooms are decorated from the 1980s and the blankets and pictures on the wall are faded. Our meal was undercooked and the restaurant was empty, waiter did comp the meal which was cool. I... More

I was at The Desmond overnight for a conference. Checking in was a breeze and the staff were friendly. I liked my room. It was clean and had everything I needed including organic products. It was a bit noisy since I was over the courtyard but things quieted down at night. TV had cable and the room was a good... More

Like being in downtown Colonial Williamsburg a la Disney. The interior courtyard offers a charming venue for gathering/events, with conference rooms leading from this space. Being just off the highway it is easy to get to and has fast access to downtown Albany. Albany's many and architecturally-varied buildings are a must-see destination. There are so many things to see and... More

I stayed here two nights for a business meeting. The rooms are on par with other hotels at the same price...nothing special here. The conference spaces are nice, and the indoor atrium spaces are equally nice. I ate at their restaurant for dinner. The food was great for a hotel, but the wine list was too short, and they were... Our hotel experience started with the rudest receptionist I have every encountered. She seemed unable to make even the most basic of eye contact and customer service. The room was noisy, the showers were cold each morning and had so much sediment that my towel was red after drying off. The entire place is tired and is more of a... More

Dear guest, We are very sorry to hear what you experienced during your stay. A recent water main issue was the cause of the colored water and temperature, we apologize for the inconvenience and it is not a regular occurrence. Thank you for letting us know of the service you received at the front desk, this will be addressed immediately... More

A great place to stay. Close to the airport (I contemplated walking), and a warm welcome. On this occasion, I arrived at the same time as Mr Desmond, but was a little too tired to appreciate it properly. Thanks for the unexpected airport pick-up at 12:30 a.m. in -4 C weather. Rooms are as expected - clean and as expected... More

I am surprised at the number of positive reviews- I am a frequent traveler and i thought this place was pretty bad. It was very evident that the Desmond has been focused on hosting events and not with upkeep of their hotel rooms!!! I can't remember a time when I have slept as poorly as I did with my four... More

Always a warm and welcoming spot to relax for a meal or an overnight stay. Though it's quite a large hotel it feels almost like a bed and breakfast. Traditional decor and up to the minute service and amenities. Love the selection of interesting items in the gift shop. And the complimentary after dinner chocolates. Yum!

I enjoyed my weekend stay very much. The atmosphere is very relaxing. I sat at the garden areas and the lobby fireplace often and I felt like I was at a resort outside of NY (away from all the snow). The staff is extremely attentive, the food served during our conference was excellent (especially bread pudding...YUM!). An overall wonderful, relaxing... More
