As many have said, be specific that you want to stay in the main building and not in the converted apartment next door. it isn't so much that the room i was in was not acceptable, but it was the minor issues like: 1 Incredibly spotty wireless service; 2. They give you a nice Keurig coffee maker and nice coffee... More

My husband and I were in Albany for 2 nights for a wedding. Our schedule afforded us time for dinner on Friday night and to have a little time to ourselves Saturday morning. Ever the B&B lovers, we tried the State Street Mansion as it's location is right at the heart of Albany. When we first arrived, the Inn manager... More

State Street Mansion was my kind of place. Brownstone built in the 1800s with dark wood banisters and closets as well as high ceilings, it was used for much of its existence as a home for autistic children. I appreciated the simplicity and was charmed by the history. Owners were friendly (so helpful with suggestions of nearby places to eat),... More

Reminded me of an inn in England. Nice older building. Not in the greatest shape, but they are trying. Nothing fancy, serves its purpose. Decent room and an easy walk to the capitol.

First, stay in the house, not the building down the street. Reading others reviews, and the real mixed bag, you can tell where they stayed. The house is lovely, variety of spaces. We have stayed in single rooms, only those that have a king, and the suite when we had our son with us. Also had a lovely room on... More

We stayed one night and then decamped for the Holiday Inn Express. Positives: personable, helpful hosts. Reasonable private parking. Nice bufffet breakfast. Elegant public rooms. Good view, overlooking Washington Park. Centrally located. Negatives: A bed I had to completely remake. Not only a feather duvet (can't stand 'em), but a down mattress topper that gave no support. Miserable if you... More

The property changed hands in July of 2009 so one might be hopeful that things will improve at this property but when I visited there in late July, things were still rather bad. On the bright side, there is a wonderful woman employee that seems to take care of most of the operations and she worked for the previous owner... More

Although we had our doubts when the lady meeting us at the entrance knew nothing about the area or how to get to the Times Union Center; and when we asked when breakfast is served, and her answer was "whenever you want - it's all here already", we were still willing to give the place a chance. The breakfast area... More

I have stayed in bed and breakfasts so know what to expect, however this was an experience I will never repeat, even if paid. The room was a so called cheaper room rate. The large window was covered with blue cloth at the top and opaque plastic bags type material below. A staple gun was the means of keeping this... More
