If you are tired of standard corporate hotel rooms; if you appreciate personalized service; if are interested in excursions in northern Sumatra; if you want to know more about the historic connection with the Dutch (one of the proprietors is a historian); if you are curious about tropical plants and gardens and if you are not afraid to be exposed to the tropics and daily life in Medan, then Hotel Deli River is the right choice. The restaurant (Omlandia) offers good Indonesian and European food and the recently built swimming pool provided cool relaxation after our regular excursions. more

I loved this place. Beautiful grounds, lovely architecture, friendly hosts (Diana and Dirk) - the pictures at te hotel website, lovely as they are, don't really do it justice. The proprietors Diana and Dirk will organize your trip in advance, just tell them what you your interests are by email. From here you can visit Lake Toba, Mt. Leuserk, go river rafting, walk to a nearby archeological site. The atmosphere is wonderful - music wafting out of the open air lounge when a visiting pianist takes a turn at the great-sounding new Yamaha upright. Beautiful main building and lovely quity comfortable CLEAN!!! rooms. more
