My main reason for visiting Malang, was climbing Semeru, the highest peak on Java. I stayed 4 nights with my wife, at Tugu. The staff immediately helped with several practical issues related to my climbing. They also made certain that my wife got special attention and follow-up on the (almost) two days that I would be away. The room was... More

It's almost like enough cannot be said about this place! It's one of those perfectly restored properties that exudes the charm of a distant past while maintaining luxurious travel experiences that match up to the best in the industry. Awesomely comfortable rooms beautifully decorated with colonial era antiques, amazing old-fashioned service, great food, stunning ambiance, and a great location to... More

This hotel has been refurbished and renovated with taste and I felt like I was walking through the Indonesian history while wandering around, it has all the luxury of a very good recent hotel. Don't miss the 4 O'clock tea time where you will taste wonderful Indonesian desert and request the Indonesia breaky instead of an usual western one.

Dear knemis, Thank you for taking the time to post a review about your stay in Tugu Malang and found it a “fairy tale hotel” filled with precious heritages of the Dutch colonial era, of gradual blend of the Indonesian and the Chinese cultures over many centuries, as well as of humble beauty of traditional Indonesian villages. While indeed, we... More

Stayed there with a few friends. The hotel itself is so beautifully decorated with priceless antiques, and the hospitality was exemplary! We were to go to Pananjakan to watch the sunrise over mt. Bromo, and since we were to leave the hotel at 1 am, we would have had to miss breakfast that day. The hotel packed (beautiful presentation too!)... More

I was traveling to Malang for a short honeymoon and my man booked a room at Hotel Tugu Malang which turned out to be a right decision. Excellent pickup service with Roberto picking us up at Malang train station with no charge. The staff greeted us happily smiling from ear to ear. They were all extremely friendly. They remind me... Great feel to the place. I stopped here just on my trip around. Very close to the flower market, i wanted to see this place because it is a museum as well as a hotel. If you buy something at the restaurant they will let you visit. I had a fruit juice and a fruit cocktail at the restaurant (... More

I had a very memorable stay in this beautiful hotel full of antiques. I dressed in my traditional Javanese outfit and Roberto shared with me the stories of the hotel and art pieces. We toured the spectacular Presidential Suite and all the halls and pavilions. The various rooms in the restaurant are full of amazing drawings reproducing old precious photos... More

Malang is a glimpse into the Indonesia of yesteryear. Tugu Malang fully does justice to the atmospheric surroundings of a beautifully preserved city surrounded by a ring of mountains. My room was beautifully furnished and the Tugus antique collection is astounding. The bathroom is fantastic with an oversized tub for long hot soaks. Choose a suite for extra luxury and... More

Trip Advisor needs a special category for 6 stars. We have stayed in some wonderful 5 star hotels in Indonesia, but Tugu in Malang is outstanding, particular in its decor where the very rich owner has gone overboard in bringing in high quality culture, art and antique artifacs, Indonesian, Javanese, Hindu, Chinese, European etc. Look for the photo of Sukarno...
