I chose Melati from an older Lonely Planet, and was so glad I did! After staying here alone, I returned with friends. I love the peace of the cottages, the super friendly staff (I second how fabulous Whyan is, from the other review), and the lovely walk down to Ubud. The breakfast is really good!

We were in Bali traveling with a group for sacred dance and sightseeing, and so we didn't choose our accommodations, but coincidentally a friend who has been to Bali many times always stays at the Melati and was very enthusiastic about both the place and the staff. And we couldn't agree more! Stayed here for two weeks and would LOVE... More

We arrived to a greeting by Whyan who new our names. He is always helpful and willing To point you in the right direction. We stayed 4 nights on the second floor which had views of a small rice field and the building is surrounded by a pond with large coy fish that splash around at night. Room was very... More

I am fortunate to have stayed at Melati Cottages many times, which should be testament enough, but it’s time I wrote a review in gratitude. Melati is one of the first accommodation places established near Ubud in the village of Penestanan. Its rustic charm set amongst stunning, natural gardens provides a feeling of the traditional blended with the required modern... More

We bailed on our Air BnB after one night and came here - what a relief. Travelling with one child is actually quite tricky - hard to have a teen in with you but he's too young to be in a separate room in many places. Our room was huge and had a King and 2 single beds - more... More

My room had a very large terrace with its own koi/lotus ponds and a view of the rice fields. I was there for two weeks pre-retreat and 2 weeks of retreat ("in the Garden of Well-Being"). A bit outside the incredible bustle of Ubud, there are many excellent restaurants and we found an excellent massage place. The people are like... More

Melati Cottages are in the nearby 'village' of Penastanan. It is older traditional style accommodation - budget priced. It is my idea of a perfect place to stay in Ubud. You get the feeling of being in such a beautiful place but not overwhelmed by the crush of tourists wandering the main streets now full of shops and 'business'. So... More

Spent one month here, and, unlike some Bali budget hotels, Melati has ceiling fans, hot running water (all day), large, airy, sun filled rooms (only 2-3 have A/c), and property is in the midst of rice fields... so, quiet (unless loud crickets, frogs and geckos keep you up!), surrounded by noises of nature.... Many guests are annual visitors for extended... More

Wonderfully kind hearted staff who instantly became our friends. We felt so at home here. Great buffet breakfast each morning. Great size pool for swimming laps. Super quiet rooms, so nice to be tucked away from the main road. The rooms are simple and clean, not super to class fancy, but this is not what we came to Bali for.... More
