We have just spent 12 days and have found the family helpful and friendly. The ambience is great. We liked being out of the craziness of the main part of Ubud but it is only a short walk to town ( a bit more than 10 mins I guess).

It's a bit of a scooter ride from the main road, but totally worth it. The room prices are great value for money. Wayan Karja, the owner, is a well-educated artist who also planned and built the beautiful bungalows. Him and his family are the friendliest people you'll meet. We spent 2011 New Years Eve having dinner prepared by his... More

Santra Putra Guest House, located in the artistic neighborhood in the middle of rice fields, is perfect for those who want to escape a bit the crowded Ubud. Everything is perfect: the courtyard is a peaceful green oasis, the rooms (especially the new ones) are breathtaking, luxorious but with a great taste for simplicity. Breakfast is amazing too (especially black... More

We stayed four nights at Santra Putra. Ubud and this guesthouse were hard to leave. Painter Karja and his family are lovely and helpful. The guesthouse is located at Penestanan, surrounded by rice fields. The exotic garden is exquisite. Our huge room featured traditional furniture and Karja's paintings of course. Kitchen and bathroom are a bit old but clean. Breakfast... More

What a gem. Calm amongst the rice paddies, visit the artist's studio. Breakfast was charming, sitting on the little set apart verandah by the lily pond was idyllic. I have fond memories of Santa Putra and on its own would be worth a return trip to Ubud.

I stayed at Santra Putra for 2.5 weeks in March, 2013, and was absolutely thrilled with this accommodation. It is in the darling village of Penestanan, surrounded by rice paddies, and only about a 15-20min walk to downtown Ubud. Each room is uniquely appointed and each one has a simple yet elegant feel. Each room has its own ample terrace... More

Beautiful, quiet, friendly, helpful, and affordable. Karja is a great host, an outstanding artist, laid-back, Also, we met some great fellow-travellers over his wife Made's tasty breakfast outdoors in the garden. We changed our Bali plans to come back for another 3 days. You'll love it. Maybe not climbing the steps, so ask for the other way in from Penestanon.

6 days was not enough to explore and enjoy the beautiful village of Penestanan. Karja and Made very special and welcomed us into their family. Art classes inspiring. Shopping at markets with Made fun. Yoga and meditation beautiful. Excellent accommodation

The room i wad given was good sized, but overpriced given the lack of a/c and the amount of competition in town. The staff seemed helpful and friendly at first, but when I actually needed help, they all but ignored me, leaving me frantically skype calling everyone under the sun. I saw them be extraordinarily helpful to some French people,... More

This guest house is in the rice fields. There are several attached houses all built and designed by Karja with his artwork throughout the rooms. I stayed in a newer room which was spacious and clean. There are two huge galleries on the property. This is a quiet setting with a low keyed guests. Karja and his wife Made are... More
