I have been to Varanasi twice, the first time I was captivated and willing to live dirty, the second time I really had difficulty with it. We were staying at a truly terrible guest house and walked past this hotel in awe. So we decided to go in, even though we were dirty backpackers they treated us with the upmost... More

The property is an old haveli converted into a boutique heritage hotel. Good points: Located exactly on Shivala ghat with a lovely view of the river, live music sometimes in the courtyard, modern rooms with all general facilities, english and indian breakfast (all food is vegetarian), helpful staff, direct access from the hotel courtyard onto the ghat via a staircase,... I last stayed here three years ago and reassuringly nothing has changed. The city is still dusty and dirty, the Ganges incredible and this hotel provides a peaceful retreat from the madness. Ask for a room on the first floor. Make sure you are up and out by 5:30 for the best light.

Overall, I had a very good experience here. It sits right on the Ganges, so taking a walk down the river to see the different Ghats and experience the interesting atmosphere was quite convenient. Although the hotel is further down from where the main Ghat and cremation area is, the walk is not far at all. Anyway, you want to... More

Amazingly blessed with a waterside location on the river Ganges. Direct access is afforded to the Ghats and the City both on foot. Not a place for the less sprightly. We were lucky enough to have a river view but all rooms benefit from a communal balcony and roof terrace, Within the courtyard there is al fresco dining and I... More

Be aware that cars can't seem to get close to hotel: we had to walk down three or four authentic alleys to reach it. Not a problem after two weeks in India! Very welcoming and friendly arrival. Our room was on first floor with a view on life on the Ganges- an almost biblical scene. Hotel is vegetarian and alcohol... More

This small Hotel (it was a King's Palace) is right on the edge of the Ganges and is within walking distance of the daily Aarti ceremony and the Hindu funeral sites. The staff are excellent and try to meet all your wishes. You should be aware that this Hotel is alcohol free and all the food is vegetarian. Try their... More

If you want a smart, sophisticated Western-Style hotel with all the comforts, this is not for you. Instead it is a truly delightful small haveli with a lot of atmosphere located in the very centre of one of the most enchanting cities in the world. It is Nepalese and Buddhist in character and situated on Shivala Ghat overlooking the Holy... More

We have just stayed here for 2 nights. We wished we could have stayed longer. The hotel is very comfortable and is located right on the banks of the Ganges. It is very easy to explore the Ghats of Veranasi , to see the religious ceremonies taking place

It is an old fashioned hotel right by the stairs leading to the river Ganges. From our window, we could see the waters flow by and hear the chants of the priests bathing in the early mornings. It was pleasant be in this quiet part of the city, since Varanasi is pretty loud and chaotic. Buffet breakfast and good service.
