My favorite guesthouse in India thus far on my journey. The owner, Prahbu, and his family are very welcoming and create a laid back vibe. I loved the rooftop deck, with a great view of the Ganges, and the monkeys playing. The resident tour guide, Guarav and suraj arranged for two amazing boat rides on the Ganges, gave me a walking... Don't come to Varanasi expecting a tourist experience, this is India at its nitty grittiest, the real reason to be to in India....if not for the mobile phones and motor bikes you could be in biblical times...dirt strewn, narrow, winding streets and alleyways populated by cattle, dogs, pigs and goats and the beautiful Indian women in the fabulous colourful saris,... I was lucky enough to find Suraj Guest House on my first night in Varanasi. the view from my beautifully Rooftop is stunning, right by the river side you can see the whole way up and down the river with the sun rising at over the river. 30 seconds walk from the gats and 5 minuets from the main centre... I had booked this guesthouse for my parents for 2 days. 1day prior to check in, i had called the owner and told him my parents would be coming and he asked me to give him a call after reaching gate 2 of kashi Viswanath temple. His guest out is 50 meters from the gate. But, after my parents reached... More

You literally just live in the house of a family. The owner is a very funny guy and he is also very helpful. The rooms were basic but nice and you have a great view from the roof. There is also a good wifi in the hostel. From the hostel to the Ganges is only 2 minute walk and a... More

My friend and I spent about 17 days at Suraj Guest House last March 2014. Had a great time chatting with everyone living there and working there - Prabhu and family, Gaurav and Viccky. Everyone was very helpful and very friendly. Prabhu's wife made some very nice brown rice and veg dishes for us. Very basic accommodation - small room... More

This is a very basic, warm and relaxed family-run guest house with exquisite views of the ghats, the Ganga and the forests beyond. It's a perfect location for the pilgrim/backpacker/adventurer - two minutes from the river between the burning ghat and the Nepali "kama sutra" temple. Traversing the warren of paths from the city/train station/bus stand can be challenging, however,... More

The owner of this place is the best hostel owner I've ever met. Truly one of the nicest men ever, he'll do anything for his visitors and set anything up that you need. The Burning Ghat and the Golden temple are both literally right next door. Stay here!! You can't miss with this place!

This place has a brilliant location right in the heart of the old town/ bazaar only 100 meters from the Burning Ghats! Excellent rooftop with views to the river. Rooms are basic but satisfactory. However, to get to the hostel you MUST have a guide from the hostel otherwise you won't find the place. In other words, you MUST arrange... More
