We stayed for only one night. It was horrible. Cheap and simple rooms which is no problem but the blankets were really dirty and a lot of cockroachs. No AC and the fan was too slow, it was too hot in the room even if we lied under the fan. Half the lights worked. Electricity problems. The wifi didnt work.... More

Ignore the bad review here as they were written before this place had an overhaul. The rooms are being done up one by one. I wouldn't consider a staying anywhere else in Varanasi. The staff are wonderful, friendly, helpful and polite. The rooms are large and clean and each one being beautifully decorated (see my photos). Yeah it gets hot... More

We were recommended this place by our friends who visited Varanasi in March. The temperatures were way cooler back then because now it was so hot we almost couldn't believe it, even lying under the fan, the bed was radiating heat! We were on the floor just above the restaurant (quite high) and the view was nice but so hot.... More

This place could be a wonderful guesthouse in an atmospheric old building fitting perfectly to Varanasi. When I stayed there all members of the staff almost completely ignored their guests, never greeted them at all didn't smile. Also the sheets and the towels were so dirty and my friend staying there was pretty sure she had bed bugs. The rooftop... More

Shanti Guesthouse is a budget option near the burning ghat, and that's the only reason you should be staying there. For many, the rooms will be too dark and depressing, and the general location near the burning ghat can feel very dispiriting when you walk outside. The wifi was sometimes working and sometimes not, and the restaurant food wasn't too... More

If you're a fan of low budget horror movies, bring your camera. The setting is ideal: Dark and moldy walls, rooms like prison cells and light is only shed by half-working neon lamps. Yes, the rooms are cheap, but we would really recommend spending 100 rupies more to have sunlight and some basic hygiene and comfort. The bed sheets were... More

Shanti is hidden away in the narrow alleys of the old town and right in the centre of things near the burning ghat and a couple of minutes walk to the Ganges. They'll organise free pickup at the station (you can call them or the Uttar Pradesh tourist office easy to find at Varanasi Junction can do it for you)... More

Rooms are really basic.. paint peeling off the walls..dark and dingy. Hot water and power very tempromental. But it's really cheap so can't expect more. it is clean though and the rooftop restaurant offers fab views of the ganges and the City below. The building is high so you're right up there with the kites. Nice food and great place... More

One gets to the Shanti View Lodge by way of a winding warren of narrow, congested, dirty alleyways. Either have your driver take you on foot into the hotel, or follow the signs from the drop off point. Either way, be prepared to hoof it. And do your best to pay attention to landmarks. This part of the town is... More

Good location (near body burning ceremony, ...) but really poor managemment! we booked a AC room but it did work, we had no hot water. When we talked to the manager the day after, he told us we should have known and that he could do nothing for us.
