Not sure which hotel the previous reviewers are writing about, but we experienced a filthy restaurant, food on the floor, sticky tables, serving stations in need of refurbishment, absolutely disgusting coffee pots which looked twenty years old. Rooms tired and first one we were showed, all the furniture peeling at their bases. No opening windows, depressing furniture. Lobby/bar depressing and... More

located on top of a hill with extensive views of the city, the Hotel was once the residence of the Managing Director of a British Textile Company. It retains its Colonial charm and gives one an unforgettable experience. The cottages are comfortable with great views. The restaurant is one of the most charming places sitting on the lawn with the entire... More

I recently made my third visit to The Gateway Hotel at Pasumalai. It is a beautiful property on top of the Pasumalai hill overlooking all of Madurai. The hotel is extremely scenic and to be one with nature I cant suggest a better place at Madurai than The Gateway. The staff there are awesome and welcome me always with fresh... More

Beautiful property overlooking Madurai. Very nice grounds, nice place to relax. The room I was in was very spacious and had a great view. My only minor gripe is they should stock more water in the room but this is a common problem for hotels in India.

My husband and I stayed at the Gateway Hotel in Madurai for two nights. The experience was nearly flawless. Our room was spacious and comfortable - one of the most comfortable beds we'd ever slept on, period. We were greeted when we arrived with gifts of fresh jasmine, and after a brief checkin were led right to our room, which... More

We stayed for 6 nights in early January, spending much of out time at the hotel given its relaxing and private ambience. A large colonial house with sensitively designed accommodation in 60 acres of landscaped grounds, the hotel is used by tour groups who whistle in and out leaving the hotel almost deserted during the day. Set high on a... More

This is a unique hotel, in a wonderful location far enough away from the lively atmosphere of Sri Menaakshi koil and the busy heart of Madurai, but close enough to be a good place from which to see the sights of Madurai and the surrounding area. The best way into Madurai is to fly in to the very new, clean,... More

We haven't planned originally to stay in this hotel. We had a family trip from Chennai to Kochin. For my wife it was the first visit to India, and from my wife's response to our first hotel in Mahabalipuram, I realized that I had to upgrade the hotels in the rest of the trip. We made reservation online at the Taj... More

In all my years of travelling most definitly this has to come out as one of the top 5 hotels in customer service. The front office, manager who double upgraded up to city view rooms, to the bellhops who promptly delivered our bags and explained the room. The excellent staff at the restaurent who for every meal made us a... More
