Was a bit disappointed that we (wife and kids) were the only guests there. I mean I came here to be away from the crowds, but I would have enjoyed some company. Since we were visiting during the monsoons - off season - the 'camp' was reduced to just 2 tents (and ofcourse the structures for the staff). It looked... More

Yes, you sleep in tents. Yes, you eat simple, home cooked vegetarian food. Yes, you get sand everywhere. Yes, there's no electricity or hot water (but very clean, functioning toilets attached to each tent). Having said that, Dera Eco is a spectacular rustic experience that you won't soon forget. While not in the vast sandy desert outside Jaisalmer (the desert... More

Having been to Jaisalmer and been completely disappointed with the crowds and high level of commercialism, Camp Dera Eco was like a miracle - how can it be possible to visit sand dunes with NO other tourists, travel via camel to get to the sand dunes at sunset past local village houses? It is all certainly possible here at Dera... More

We arrived with 2 hrs delay at the meeting point north of Osiyan an old town north of Jodhpur. We were greeted by the owner who gave us the choice of riding the camel or the jeep to the camp. So we decided on a camel ride into the sunset and reached the camp after one hr. The camp has... More

I stayed 1 night in this wonderful place. A tented camp in the middle of the desert. I was met by the manager, who drove me by jeep to the camp. It was perfect. So very peacefull, so many stars. I was the only guest, but didn't feel uncomfortable at all. The manager and owner did everything to make me... More

Osiyan is an ancient town in the Thar desert, northwest of Jodhpur. We stayed in the Eco Camp by he end of August 2007. When arriving in Osiyan you will meet the owner of the tented camp at a prearranged place in the village and he brings you with your luggage by jeep to the Camp in the desert. You... More
