First of all, on returning home we found that we had been charged twice for the deposit of 20,000 rupees. Malabar House apologised profusely and we were eventually refunded in full about 3 weeks later but check your bill. Serenity seems to be in the middle of nowhere; our driver had to stop several times to ask for directions so... more

We stayed at Serenity for 2 nights as part of our honeymoon at the end of January. We found the relaxing atmosphere and unspoilt 1920's building delightful. We had room 3 upstairs with windows opening onto a shaded verandah where we spent some hours lazing on a chez long or eating lunch. it felt like our own little living room.... more

Booked through Kerala Connections and we were delighted. A beautiful shuttered plantation house. Our ground floor bedroom was huge and the bathroom opened out onto the grounds. Lots of beautifully wrapped soaps, shampoos etc in the bathroom. The house was painted in stunning colours and decorated with attractive sculpture and art. Superb food especially the Thali. The staff couldn't do... more

We stayed one day in late December and had a wonderful experience. We saw no evidence of the problems mentioned by other reviewers. The hotel is now beautifully clean and has a team of staff who are incredibly willing, helpful and efficient. They also have a very good chef who made us a delicious seafood dinner which we ate on... more

We (two adults and two children aged 12 and 14) have just returned from a trip to Kerala including two nights in Serenity after staying at the other Malabar House properties (Malabar House in Kochi and Discovery). The rooms are beautifully and stylishly decorated and furnished and luckily we had the only room with air-conditioning. We had a major problem... more

Unfortunately our first impressions of this hotel weren't great - we had to wait 5 hours in the heat to check-in (we arrived early at 10am and check-in wasn't till after 3pm) - there were other guests complaining at the delay and no-one updating us on how long we'd have to wait. However, things improved once we got our room... more

Want to be a plantation owner,? stay in big house with five bedrooms only, supper under the trees. A tame elephant to ride.Come to Serenity and its all yours. By far the strangest place we stayed at in India, like an upmarket homestay. Superb food that tasted homecooked and peerless service and attention. more

I’m wary of writing this review as it may sound as if I’m on commission. But I’m not. And I mean every word. You couldn’t ask for more from a hotel. Kanam Estate is a beautiful old plantation house with a handful of rooms, an immaculately kept pool and service you normally only read about. As part of the Malabar... more
