I asked my rickshaw driver to take me to the government tourist info center but was delivered to Johnson's instead. I was tired so I took a room here. It was a nice room, spacious with a balcony. Great deal. The food there was really good and the internet was good. I agreed to use his houseboat service when I... More

It's Johnson's bashing season on TP. It's also reviewers bashing back season by myself, now that I am allowed to do so. This gentleman does not seem to find any tours, hotels or anything at all that is reliable in India, not just me and my boat. The only thing that I can admit to as a mistake is that... More

We arrived in Alleppey looking solely for a houseboat as we had already checked into a another place. It was unfortunatley during a Tamil Nadu festival so many of the houseboats had been booked in Advance. After being turned away by some of the higher rated places on tripadvisor we opened lonely planet and saw that this guy Johnson seemed... More

FAIR ENOUGH. Now it's my turn. Thank you for answering some of your own stupid complaints, although there were as usual, a few half truths. How come you did not say that I asked you to come to us couple of hours early because you had not paid an advance? Thank you for saying that I got angry with the... More

We would like to warn people not to go here! From the start the feeling was shady. The moment we stepped into the room and saw the "it is not allowed to do list" and "if you have something to say say at the beginning because I don't want to hear complaints later", we started to feel uneasy. But we... More

They called at 4.00 in the morning, making sure I would not charge them for the previous night. No problem there. I picked them up from bus stand at about 5.30 early morning, free. After they were shown the room I showed them the normal welcome sheet, that said check in check out time was 12.00 noon and my other... More

We followed lonely planet and headed to johnsons in alleppey from the station. Looking around we were stuck as to whether to stay or not because alleppey seemed to have very few guesthouses in lonely planet. The room we were going to take was dirty, had a table and a bed with no sheets and one pillow for two of... More

Thx- for leaving straight away. But then, if they left straight away, how could I have tried pushing them into taking my houseboat. Naw, these were just super budget travellers trying to hustle me into giving them a discount. The room they settled for was the cheapest at Rs.400/- a single room. As the bed is big enough, sometimes two... More

We have just had a fantastic four nights at Johnson's guest house, plus one night aboard his Eco houseboat. The boat trip was definitely a highlight of our travels so far (we have been in India for 6 weeks) and we would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to enjoy some peace, tranquility and amazing food/service on Alleppey's backwaters. At... More

We arrived in Cochin by train as it started to get dark, nowhere to stay and quite tired from the near 20 hours on a train. We looked utterly hopeless the Tuk Tuk pick us up and we did not know where we would end up........ In the near dark we are brought to what can almost be described as... More

We spent a lovely 24 hours on this lovely houseboat. The houseboat staff were fantastic and Benny the chef is a real find. The food was delicious - more than we could eat! Houseboat staff were really friendly and we loved the peace of the Kerala backwaters. The same can't be said for the hostel which is grubby at best.... More

Why did the reviewer stay in my grubby hotel, if as he says, I have put several 'No complaints afterwards' and 'do not stay in my guesthouse if you are not satisfied', 'if there are problems that arise during your stay, please contact owner or staff, get it rectified, and if it cannot be corrected, the guest is free to... Having just returned from 4 days in deepest rainforest we needed serenity and relaxation. Our experience onboard Johnson's beautiful houseboat was perfect. The crew were attentive and lunch, dinner and breakfast first class. Given the amount of food, 3 crew and a 2 hour trip down the interior canals in a canoe, the price is very good value indeed. After spending a stressful few days traveling from Bangalore to Cochin to Alleppy, we found the comfort of Johnson's houseboat to be extremely relieving. Everything from the food to the staff on the boat to the price of the adventure were all lovely. I'd highly recommend it for a group of friends looking to get a cheap rate and a... More

- rooms are really dirty and poorly maintained. - landlord states that if the tourists are not satisfied they can just leave the hotel upon arrival (a welcome (or badcome) sheet that can be found in the room insists on this). The lady is correct. If you do think the rooms are dirty and poorly maintained, do not take the room, please. Thank you very much. I wonder how we manage to survive, with all these bad reviews on TripAdvisor. For those who may be interested, we are not only surviving but flourishing. It is our 12th or 13th season, and... More
