Beware, Johnson is a rip off and only after money. He is not interested in your experience and his claims of the boat being 'Eco' are nothing more that a gimmick, book something better or not at all. Firstly, the homestead is disgusting. Dirty beyond anything I've seen as a backpacker. The room was filthy dirty, rat poo, bird poo... More

Hi, It's been a long time since I had the chance to respond to a review. So here goes. This man starts by saying the Eco worthiness of the boat is misleading and that I am only after money, and that the guesthouse is bad and the room is full of bird poo, animal poo, etc. Let me start my... More

Johnson as read on the lonely planet is a character! You can like him or not but his guest house is literally a pigsty. Unfortunately there is no other way to put it. Horrible place and horrible energy. And nevertheless it's very expensive for what you get. His boat instead, not cheap, but it's really nice and the staff really... More

I have to say, this definitely was THE highlight of my trip to India. After many long train rides, and adventuring though different cites and towns, this was the perfect and ultimate relaxing conclusion to my trip. The boat was perfect. while maybe not as fancy as some of the other boats we saw out on the river. However, very... More

Hopefully the Eco claims of the boat are correct because that's the upside if this boat. Yes the backwaters are pretty but there are better (and cheaper) ways to see it, for example local ferry ride or a dinner cruise! We thought we wanted to spend the night on the boat to experience the backwaters, but that is not necessary... More

Johnson's house boat was a beautiful way to experience the backwaters of Kerala. The boat itself is spacious, with a huge dining/lounge area, complete with comfy hanging chairs, and the bedroom was large, with a bathroom attached. The staff were incredibly friendly, and we felt comfortable sitting around with them and asking them about their lives. The food offered was... More

The guesthouse is poorly maintained and unclean. There were several dogs and cats roaming around inside the communal areas & a horse tied up outside. The bedroom was large and bright however. The service is slow and haphazard. I would not recommend this guesthouse.

I found Johnson's Eco Houseboat online after quite some time researching as I wanted to avoid having to pick a houseboat there and then. We had a very pleasant stay and loved the fact that the bedroom and sun deck are located on the upper deck. The food was delicious and plentiful and Johnson's crew were very friendly. Make sure... Johnson boat - rumors were right as soon as we drove into town houseboat owners attacked trying to get us to book with them but we booked the best one head of time. The regular check In Time of ALL The house boats is noon and you get lunch when you get on board so take that into account when... More

I've been traveling from many years and I slept in many hostel or guest house but I've never had such a bad experience as in johnson G H!! From outside the guest house looked it was bombed one day before, dirty all the way around and with the roof covered from a massive plastic cover. Big angry dogs and a... More

We arrived at Johnson's homestay after a long journey and were welcomely warmed into the house by the hosts and dogs, goats and horse! Very friendly staff, great location walking distance to the beach. Would recommend! We then did a trip on the Johnson's houseboat which was magical, a must do for any trip to alleppey. Again, very friendly helpful... More
