If you arrived to ernakulam and you will be a night or a few nights here, this place is a excellent choice. Good price, free wifi, good service and close to shops and restaurants. Almost is perfect location to take the ferry to Port Kochi. Don't miss the oportunity to exchange your all ready read books, here you have plenty... More

We arrived in ernakulam to stay for one night before getting the train to goa the next day. We initially tried to get the ferry to fort cochin but it's not worth it for a night. So instead we found johns residency. Rooms were clean and tidy, basic, but thats all we needed for one night. They were more expensive... More

the hostel was really good value for money. even though the prices had changed within one week of us returning. the receptionist was super friendly and extremely helpful. so was John but when it came to liaising with driver for the backwater tour and our ongoing trip we were not given much useful help and rather advised wrongly ( we... Nothing bad to say about this place at all. John was very helpful and friendly. We booked a Kerala backwater day tour through him (which was good), he arranged for a money changer to come and see us at the hotel, and also gave good restaurant advice. The room was good - a decent size, clean and nicely furnished. The... More

I have travelled India extensively over the past few years, and I could honestly say I have never found a more authentic, honest and lovely host than John from John's residency. He is a Gentleman of the south. More helpful than any other hosts I have met, full of suggestions for this beautiful part of India and very helpful in... More

I stayed twice at John'sResidency about 9 days in total. I felt like home. John is the owner, very helpful when I asked about anything. The decoration at front desk is so charming. Zoe, John's dog is so sweet, she followed me around, felt I had a lovely bodyguard! When back in Ernakulam I will stay here again. Wonderful all... More

We arrived to an undisclosed tax and a pushy man trying to book us in to any backwater trip/tour he could. This turned us off a bit. Once we got to our room, it was clean and just what we needed. It was also well located and we had some great food nearby.

Spoke to the owner to book by phone and it wasn't too promising as he was somewhat blunt but made a booking anyway as he agreed to have someone there to let me in at 6 am (bus timings necessitated this). On arrival a young man jumped up from his bed to welcome me and couldn't have been more friendly... More

Selection of different prices rooms. Cheap, rooms clean enough. We were helped to buy dance tickets and given lots of helpful information about the local area. Close to the train station too- just a cheap tuc-tuc ride away.
