I stayed for 3 days with my son. The food was good and the place was beautiful. If you are looking for the comforts of a hotel, you will be disappointed. There is no room service and no intercom. But the place is beautiful with the bhadra river flowing by.In the mornings you can hear the chirpings of birds and... More

The homestay is great . The bhadra river is also good. Food is homely of malnadu style Hot water not always there . We need to personally go and tell the staff as there is no intercom which is annoying to say the least. I am OK with not having room service but some sort of intercom is required as... More

We had booked log cottage - 22nd Dec - 25th Dec. We had to cut short our trip because of the horrible experience we had. The bedsheets were bloodstained. No sepaarte housekeeping staff - nobody checks whether clean sheets are being used. They boast of having 2 bathrooms - but none of the cisterns worked. There is no way to... More

We stayed here for 2 nights and wish to come back here. As a homestay it stand well if you are planning to get complete disconnect from city life. Though it is a homestay it is built like a resort but do not mistake it to compare with a resort. The facilities and the services are very much acceptable for... More

Shanthi Kunnj is situated adjacent to Bhadra River, in the midst of 60 acres of tranquil coffee estate, overlooking the gushing waters of Bhadra River and the evergreen forests of Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary close to Balehonnur town of Chikmagalur, Karnataka. Shanthi Kunnj is nestled in the cozy embrace of Holy Cross Estate. The history of Holy Cross Estate is both unique and inspiring. Founded in 1979, it stands testimony to a saga of dedication and determination of the estate founder Mr. Anthony Saldanha, who singlehandedly converted a once barren land into a flourishing plantation. The region surrounding the estate is known as Masigadde, meaning 'Coal Field' as this place was used for producing charcoal used to run the steam locomotives of the British era. Entire forests would be burned down for this purpose. It was the vision of Mr. Anthony Saldanha, a master planter with a lifelong passion for plantations, that saw a flourishing estate in this land. Even though he was warned that nothing could be made to grow here as the land was degraded from years of burning charcoal, he took this as a personal challenge. Seeing the Bhadra river as a lifeline, he embarked on setting up the estate and yielding began in 1983-84. Converting barren land into wealth, he brought back life to this dead place. Presently this estate is managed by his son Neethan Saldanha. Neethan has an engineering background and has dedicated his life to continuing his father's legacy. The estate produces Coffee - Robusta, most of which is exported. Alongside Areca, Black pepper, Cardamom, Vanilla, Banana are also grown. Location Type: Coffee Estate.
