Is Swiss Hotel the friendliest guesthouse in India as Lonely Planet says? The short answer is 'no', however the staff are by no means unfriendly or unhelpful. The hotel is one min walk from the lake and in a nice, quiet neighbourhood. The rooms are clean and nicely laid out and there is free wifi in the common room. However... More

When Lonely Planet said the Swiss Hotel was "one friendliest places to stay in India" we thought "that's a high bar to aim for" given how friendly we have found everyone. But Rouf and his team Altaf, Mudasir and Ashiq really do provide a home away from home. The large sitting area is great to chat to the 4 of... More

I must tell that Srinagar is a beautiful place and the lake is beautiful. We picked Hotel Swiss in the Lonely Planet, the review was quite positive. The first thing we noticed is that the price have doubled since the visit of LP writers, it was 1200 INR, the most expensive night we had for our whole trip in India.... More

We checked in here after a hot couple of nights on a houseboat. The hotel is a few minutes down a quiet side street close to Dal lake. The manager was great and offered to undercut the website prices that we were expecting. The room was large and airy and sheltered from the sun. On the downside the sockets were... More

Stayed here a second time in July 2014, this time as the starting point for a road trip from Srinagar to Leh to Manali to Delhi. As with my first visit in 2013, the manager was again most helpful in arranging logistics for my trip. Most noteworthy here was assistance in providing a reliable rickshaw driver for a tour of... This hotel is conveniently located off the busy Nehru Park, where good restaurants are easily accessible. The rooms are reasonably priced, spacious, clean and nicely decorated. Staff are friendly and service-oriented. The owner of the hotel is very friendly and even helped us with the planning of our itinerary. He also made many recommendations with regards to the local delicacies... More

Very friendly hotel with a zealous owner (Rouf), who is very eager to leave a good impression and works hard at making life comfortable within the confines of the hotel. Rouf has good knowledge of places to go, where to eat etc and can generally be relied upon for a rousing conversation about the area, its politics, his kids, and... More

I don't know if we overpaid, but the price was similar to what we were paying before and the standard was even better than what we got before. I agree that the owner makes that place. Rooms are normal for this price. The problem was that often there was no power, but I don't know if it was just the... More
