The name - Introurist - may be a slightly unwise choice, as it evokes the drab communist-era hotels that littered the Soviet Union, but that's about where the similarities end. Four of us visited Batumi in November 2007 and it was a sheer luck to choose Intourist. We were not disappointed with our choice. Very nice place. It was recently renovated, so ignore older reports in older guide books. The hotel is grand. My room was very spacious with all the amenities you'd expect in a five-star hotel. My wife grew up in Batumi and we had the opportunity to visit Batumi for a week the summer of 2006. We stayed at the Intourist and I had the opportunity to run into Senator John McCain from Arizona as he stayed over one evening.
