Having read several reviews, I have to say that when we holidayed here it was fantastic, the hotel is beautiful, small and friendly. The grounds and gardens are a pleasure to walk round and the pool areas always quiet and clean. The staff are very tentative and one day when sitting by the pool, our friend decided it was too... We stayed here in 2008 and had a very mixed stay. I was incredibly tempted to write a review straight after but wanted to move on from the experience. Someone asked me this week about the Gambia and our stay here came rushing back: - towels - not especially new or fresh, but no big deal - peace - in... More

This is a gorgeous hotel with tables around a dramatic floodlight pool. Service was wonderful and the portions were huge (as all of The Gambia) but delicious as well. We did not have enough cash and paid by card. Queue £2k being spent from my account by a travel firm in South Africa! Barclays gave it back but be careful... More

Since I last stayed at this Hotel in December 2009 the standards have gone even better. Food, Service, can not be faulted. If you want "Sky sport" "Vollyball @ 2.30 pm" "Entertainment etc" this Hotel is NOT for you. If you want top quality food service peace and quiet. Then this is it.

This might not be the 5 star of a Sheraton or Shangri-La, but I would say it is better. After all, why else go to the Gambia rather than some trendy and plush boutique hotel in the western world with a nice sandy beach? The Coconut Residence gives an African colonial feel and is small, cosy and relaxed. The service... More

Firstly i would lik to say that i have never wrtten a review but after my return from this trip and looking at reveiws for coconut residence i could not beleive how negative they were so felt compelled to tell you our experience. We had a six night stay at Coconut residence after 4 amazing nights at Mandina's stilted lodge... More

Our experience was probably typical. The gotel does have a certain 'shabby chic' colonial grandeur about it, and the little cdottages scattered round the grounds are a charming approach to accommodation, but there wree numerous little irritations. The rooms were fine, but the linen could have been cleaner, the restaurant was OK but the obsequiousness of the restaurant greeter was... More

When we arrived we were a little disappointed by the approach but once inside we were captivated by the beautiful gardens and colonial feel to the buildings. We also stayed in a villa but were upgraded to a much larger one as our's was very noisey at night not the fault of the hotel but the locals partying till very... More

I recently returned from a one week stay at the Coconut Residence, and my experience has motivated me to write the first review of this kind of my life. In short, the hotel is very disappointing and any suggestion that this is a 5 star resort is absurd. We stayed in one of the expensive, so-called "private" villas which are... More

It is distressing to read some of the more negative reviews regarding this hotel. We have just arrived back from a week of being looked after by very attentive staff, in rather nice accommodation. We had the most basic of their suites but had chosen to go for 2 of the Juniors, next door to each other for ourselves and... More
