Stayed here recently for 2 nights across the street (Hotel Islasol), 2 nights at Hotel Solymar and one night elsewhere (booked late, but good experience to move around and see many different hotels!). Here is the good: - Great, friendly people and staff - the extra fee to have someone meet us at the airport and take care of our... More

When we first planned our girls trip to the Galapagos Islands, we had booked in another hotel. Do to overbooking, we were upgraded to the Solymar(which ended up being for the very best). What a great place! All the staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms were very clean. The staff treated us as their own family and made... More

I agree with most of the comments - pro and con. It's not cheap, but then this is Galapagos. The hotel can be a little noisy, we were in the block facing the pool. The restaurant is OK. Likewise the bar. Be careful of the pool. As is the case everywhere on the islands animals have right-of-way. On my first... More

Puerto Ayora is one of the Galápagos Islands. Twenty years ago there were 3,000 inhabitants and today there are 22,000. It's a one trick pony kind of town but what a pony. We sit on our shaded balcony and watch a sea lion, pelican and iguana sun beside the pool. They are regulars to this place. The rooms are large... More

We were booked on a cruise which was cancelled so our tour co. put us on another one & made up the difference with some land content. This hotel was recommended. The bed was comfy but difficult to get past if someone was in the chair. While English is spoken there are few problems here & there. The desk was... More

Dear bluebird3458, Thank you for your review and taking the time to share your comments. We understand it must have been difficult to have booked and planned a cruise then have those plans changed by your tour operator at the last minute. When plans don't go as followed it can often skew the view of the rest of the experience.... More

The hotel was not terrible in general, but way over priced for what you're getting. The breakfast buffet is the same every day and if you don't arrive early, you can expect a few flies and ants around your food. There was a problem with our shower water (it smelled really bad) so after the second complaint they moved us... More

We had rooms at the front which overlooked the main street and the hotel on the opposite side of the street which was handy but NOISY. It was not always staffed and pre-booked tour arrangements were not in place but then sorted out after a day. Staff friendliness varied but it could be the language differences. Breakfast was in a... Our family group of 9 stayed here for 4 nights in late December. We found the hotel to be clean, modern, and comfortable. The staff were always friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English. The included breakfast was very good, as were other meals we had at the restaurant, and you can't beat the view of the water while dining.... More

Very nice and clean! For the price you can't beat it. The pool isn't really that great, but both years I have visited/stayed at this hotel, I have never seen anyone swimming in it. There are much better things to do on the island. The staff is great and very informative. If you get a sunburn, one of the kind... More

We ended up staying at the Hotel Solymar unexpectedly while on a Galapagos cruise. The hotel is located on the water near the center of town. It is within walking distance of the Darwin Center and the local shops. The room was smallish and overlooked the bar area. The view was nice but it did get a little noisy in... More
