I stayed in Hotel Espana several times over a 3 week period, and always came back because of the value. The rooms are small and simple but air conditioned. For $10 per night more you can get a premium room that is significantly better than a standard room. The hotel is very close to the downtown area. The staff are... More

The position of this place is good even if not on the main street along the ocean. The staff is available and breakfasts good. Rooms are quite spartan and hot but air conditioned works well. Both rooms and bathrooms were clean.

We stayed twice while in Santa Cruz. Our second room was a bit nicer. The breakfast is early and the servers didn't speak any English. Hot water in the showers was hit and miss. The A/C was good and there's wi fi but only in the common area downstairs. My gripe was the staff or owners screaming kids. Also, we... More

Stayed here during a five day trip to the Galapagos which included three nights on Santa Cruz. The hotel is absolutely nothing fancy but met my needs perfectly: filled with a nice blend of travelers from all over the world, some families as well, fairly priced for what you get, wifi access (it was only slow one day, all others... The hotel as far as location and cleanliness is about the same as all the others in the area for around the same price (we walked around and looked at about a dozen). Walking through the lobby coming in and out was usually awkward because the staff was so unfriendly, but the rooms were good enough.

Before I chose this hotel, I read all the comments and I didn't understand what people expect from this place because I think the price is according to it. The people from reception desk are friendly and they are open to explain about the island and the tours you can get. I suggest to negotiate the price because single room... More

Aimed at the budget traveller it's definitely worth bartering here, sat in reception one evening it was amusing to hear the range of prices people were paying for the same room type depending on their negotiating! It's a small town so everything is close by. Wi-Fi is woefully slow but there are internet cafes close by. There is a small... More

The price is according to the service and the place, it is not fancy but it was perfect for my trip!! I stayed for 2 nights, and the service was excellent, they received me very well, gave me all the information about tours, about stores, restaurants, costs, etc. The bedroom is small, is not fancy, but it was all I... Ok so its fair to say my experience of Ecuadorian building standards is that there is not a lot of sound proofing but this place with its central location and roof top bar across the road was a nightmare. We had booked in to go diving- (early 6am start) so a good nights sleep was vital. An average night kicked... More

We found Hotel Espana to be a great option in Puerto Ayora: Daniel and Michele, the two main staff members working at the front desk, were extremely helpful and hardworking. The hotel is in a great location: Easy walking distance to Tortuga Bay, Charles Darwin Center, and to the waterfront. For a decent cup of coffee/$5 breakfast deal, the Galapagos... More
