Just near where the bus dropped us off from Pula was an accommodation agency so we went in only to find it was a homestay agency. Clearly we were not the first to make this mistake as the lady in the agency told us a bit about the local hotels and then kindly offered to keep our bags while we... more

the kvarner (ex "quarnero" in austro-hungarian and italian times) is probably the jewel of opatija/abbazia hotels in terms of history and tradition. its location right on the sea next a lush, large public garden and along the sea-shore walking track is unbeatable. hotel was built in the 1880s and it shows from it magnificent architecture and from the wide and... more

For people used to 4- or 5-star hotels, I can see why they would be disappointed with Hotel Kvarner. It's true that the furnishings were a little worn and I did detect a small tear in the bedspread. But for those (like me) who rarely stay in luxury hotels, Hotel Kvarner was a total treat. There's not a lot of... more

I stayed at the Hotel Kvarner for one night. My room was somewhat over the hill -- faded wallpaper, tired lampshades, a creaky wooden floor -- but it was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom appears to have been remodeled sometime in the present century. I had a wonderful sea view from the balcony; didn't get a... more

The brochure states this is a three/four star hotel but it is not, I would rate it at two stars at the most. The furniture and decoration is in a poor state and in need of updating. The bedclothes were torn. The room was unbearably hot, the window had to be open all the time, it needs air conditioning and... more

We have just returned from Opatia in Croatia 26/05/07 where we stayed at the Villa Amalia which has a 2 star rating & half board The room was large & spacious with a decent sized bathroom, unfortunately the shower head would not fit the wall bracket, so could not have a shower which resorted in having a bath each day,... more

Hotel Kvarner is on the seawall in a convenient location in Opatija and is in a very attractive setting. The views from the hotel are beautiful, as is the hotel exterior. The public areas weren’t bad, there were still some older ornate looking furnishings around the hotel. The rooms were fairly attractive, with a bit of a period look, though... more

This hotel was in the best location, right on the beach with private access to deck chairs. You feel like you are royalty staying in this hotel - it is grand and old. Our room was huge - the biggest of any hotel I have ever stayed in. It must have once been a parlour or lounge room or something.... more
