Check-in would have been comical if I hadn't been so irritated that it took both the new bellboy and the desk clerk more than 30 minutes to get the key card to open our room. Then, the first time we left our room, we couldn't get it opened either. The resolution that first night was to give us the hotel's... More

A small, older hotel located in walking distance from old Cartagena. What made the hotel exceptional were the location and the staff, who could not be more helpful - with directions, room changes, wake-up calls. One other real plus is that breakfast is served in a beautiful courtyard. There also is a bar open Thursday through Saturday nights on the... More

The hotel is located about an easy 5 minute walk from Cartagena's city walls and the great sights, restaurants, etc inside. Our room was at the rear of the hotel so we weren't affected by traffic noise, so be aware the rooms at the front overlooking the main road could be noisy. The room was comfortable and clean with a... More

This was my fifth time in Cartagena. Based on recomendations, we chose the Monterrey hotel for this time. When we got there, we liked the building, a charming colonial building, a few steps from the clock tower and the walled city. But after that, we were walked to our room. It was very disappointing, with a lot of humidity and... More

We were pleasantly surprised by the Hotel Monterrey. Everything was clean, and shiny. There was a large shower and a pretty little balcony. We faced into a courtyard and didn't have any noise problems. The breakfast was excellent, they offered eggs (any style) plus very nice pastries and lots of fruit choices. The location was excellent, only about a block... More

We stayed 2 nights at the Hotel Monterrey. The hotel is located a few minutes walk from the clock tower entrance to the walled city. We had a room with 2 single beds. The hotel is really charming. It looks to be a colonial building with a center courtyard. The bathroom was beautiful and looked to be recently updated with... More

Handy for the bars and restaurants in the old town. A small hotel with pretty basic facilities but not bad over all. I've stayed here a few times and it's always been pleasant enough. Can be noisy at night but the hotel is located near a lot of bars and clubs so it is to be expected.

My boyfriend and I spent 4 nights at Hotel Monterrey and couldn't have been happier. The people are wonderfully nice, knowledgeable, and helpful. The room was lovely and clean. The pool on the roof was nice, and has a great view. There is also a bar on the roof, however there is never a bartender there...probably because no guests are... More

The hotel is just outside the walled city and a good location for us. We stayed here 4 nights. The room was nice with comfortable beds, a beautiful bathroom and plenty of storage. The air conditioner (which we needed) worked well. Our room had a small balcony overlooking the courtyard.

Immediate, strong, hot water? Jacuzzi tub? Elaborate lobby? Fabulous buffet breakfast? Hotel Monterrey has none of these. But our room, 203, looks out across the Plaza of The Martyrs directly to the clock tower at the entrance to the old city and with an easy stroll you are in the midst of all the restaurants, museums, and street scenes you...
