Don't stay here! I booked a room here but when I arrived it was in shambles and uninhabitable. Good thing there was a boy there who told me that I could stay at their other hotel Casa Villa Colonial, down the street. I'm giving them one star because that is just not acceptable - feels like a scam. Casa Villa... More

I wanted to extend our stay at another hotel but they had no availablity. After a referral and a check of a dated Lonely Planet review, I stopped by Casa Mara on Friday and booked a room for Saturday night. PROS: 1) Secure. The watchful staff keeps the front gate locked at all times. 2) Small pool in central courtyard....good... More

It's a pity the last reviewer was let down by his booking not being honoured. I had no such problems and found the Casa Mara to be elegant and comfortable, the whitewashed courtyard having a soothing effect in the heat of Cartagena. My room was spacious and quiet and the management were courteous. No breakfast but an unlimited supply of... More

The hostel looked great. My advice is book at least a few days in advance, email the confirmation and ask them to reconfirm, be prepared with a back up place. Having read the mostly good reviews, except for those people who were moved, we decided to book and email the confirmation to them to ensure they had our booking. We... More

Lovely little place, perfectly located in a silent street close to everything. The rooms are fine, the service is excellent and the outside area (which includes a small pool) is so charming.. Would definitely stay here again :)

We booked Casa Mara online through Expedia, but when we arrived at the hotel we were told that they had our Expedia booking but there was no room available. After much discussion, they switched us to their sister hotel, Villa Colonial. It was OK, but we had booked Casa Mara for the pool, and Villa Colonial didn't have one.

When I showed up, they tried to send me to another place that they said they "owned" because they had overbooked. I looked up the hotel that they were trying to send me too, and it was not very nice. I insisted on receiving a room at Casa Mara as I was promised and they miraculously found that they had... More

so yah, I love this place. Why did i say its average? I'd only bring one of my more "rugged" ladies here, but I absolutely love it. I was half loaded one night I was staying in Hostal Baluarte around the corner....im barhopping and I see the wonderful pool through the gates. I finish my pub crawl, hit playa blanca... More

Nice hotel. Friendly staff, not to much English but we managed with our tourist Spanish. Really needed internet so they gave us a room on the second floor (first floor has the best reception, third the worst). We had room 4, extremely big for the two of us. Our bathroom (had a bath!) Was the size of a small dormroom!... More

Made the reservation through hostelbookers based on the good reviews. Stayed for three nights. It doesn't feel at all like a hostel. We didn't spend much time at the hostel, but the important things were all there: comfortable, quiet, clean and friendly. Beers, soft drinks can be bought at the front desk. No food or liquor was available. Coffee was... More
