My husband and I (late 20s, experienced backpackers) stayed at this hostel in October 2013 for two separate nights while we were transiting through Urumqi during a two-week trip to Xinjiang. Pros: -The girl working the front desk was both friendly and helpful. (Some people seem to have indicated the opposite, I will note that this could be dependent on... More

This is a regular youth hostel. It has very simple rooms and a simple but inviting common area. The beds are rock hard, but that just seems to be an overall Xinjiang standard, so nothing to be surprised about. But what we did mind a lot were the toilets and bathroom. The smell was really terrible and having one smelly... More

Avoid this place if you can. Staff are rude and useless. They don't have the most basic knowledge of Urumuqi or common tourist needs. In summers the Army occupies the school behind the hostel, be ready to be woken at 4am by PLA marching songs and yelling. Filthy toilets, grungy beds and a hostile atmosphere make it a place to... Our dorm room's lock was broken, and the bathroom door was rotting and wouldn't close properly. Staff seem to resent foreigners. The fridge ran out of beer at 5pm and they said they didn't have any more. After getting beer from a local shop I later saw one of the staff go into a room and bring back beers for... More

The hostel is a good place to just get a nights rest. The room was painted like a little kids room. The room was run down as much of the hostel was. The main room was very smoky so we did not stay in that area. ( I know it's China) still I don't smoke. The hostel was near the... More

Somewhat gruff staff, with mostly a challenged command of English. decent enough beds. No lockers in the dorms. Good, somewhat grotty showers. Pleasant enough common area, no breakfast served. Hot water available.

We arrived at 9.30am (Beijing time) from an overnight bus from Almaty and were provided with a double room with attached bath for 110Y. We were greeted welcomely by a young man, who used a translation program on his computer to communicate with us. They needed us to wait for a few minutes as they cleaned the room up, but... More

The rooms are fine, though the mattresses are about half an inch of fabric through which you can feel the wood frame. The staff are just terrible, and rude, and clearly would rather not deal with guests. They are unhelpful and unable to provide even the most basic tourist information. Worst of all the hostels I've stayed at in xinjiang.

This is literally the worst hostel I have ever stayed in. The staff is unfriendly, the guests are unfriendly, if you're expecting the typical European backpacking crowd you'll be surprised, its mostly obnoxious Chinese tourists and even a few migrant workers. The shared restroom is disgusting and there is only one shower for over 30 shared room guests. There are... More

We have stayed there twice during our trip to xinjiang. Many things are written in english inside the hostel but nobody speaks english. It's absolutly not possible to communicate with them for asking an advice or any information. There speak loudly at night even if a sign tells to not make noise in the night. The rooms are big enough... More
